MSNBC fires pollster Frank Luntz, in bed with left-wing media critic David Brock of Media Matters
Roll Call (subscription only) | 9/29/04

From Roll Call, subscription only. Here's the relevant bit:

Looks like the letter had an impact. Although MSNBC did not respond to Brock, a spokeswoman for the network told HOH late Wednesday that the network has decided “not to go with Frank for the debate.” In fact, MSNBC won’t conduct polling at all now, she said.

Brock was delighted to hear the news. “It is encouraging that MSNBC responded to criticism in a constructive way. Clearly they realized that employing a partisan pollster does not reflect well on them as a responsible media outlet.”

From Media Matters:

From: Jeremy Gaines (NBC Universal, MSNBC) Sent: Wednesday, September 29, 2004 6:22 PM To: David Brock Subject: Frank Luntz

David---

I'm writing in response to your letter to Rick Kaplan. We will not be using any focus groups during our debate coverage. We think the audience is fully capable of coming to their own opinions without "scientific" help. A press release indicating that Frank Luntz would be on our air went out in error.

Guess Dennis Miller doesn't feel the same way, he just had
Frank Luntz on his show!

are you kidding? I loathed those idiotic focus groups.

Luntz is a fool. Most of his panels were stacked. Sometimes by leftists. Sometimes by conservatives.

Saying they were undecided is a fraud.

Frank Luntz is a conservative.

How can he be in bed with a leftist?

Nothing like fair and balanced.

He was the only focus group guy I could stand to watch.

They must be in meltdown and need to lie about how bad the polling is out there for dour Kerry.

We think the audience is fully capable of coming to their own opinions without "scientific" help.

Translation: We, not the hoi polloi, will let you know who won the debate.

Let's hope Fox News picks him up like they did Pat Cadell.

Perhaps PMSNBC will bring in a Democrat to run their focus group.

I am sure that would make the people at Media Matters Happy!

ALL of the undecideds went with Bush during the GOP convention.

I guess that didn't sit well with the liberals at MSNBC, huh?

I really like Frank. Hope FOX does scoop him up.

About time FOX hired a conservative. They've hired Geraldo Rivera, Greta van Sustren, Chris Wallace, etc.

In fact, I can't remember them hiring a new conservative or Republican or middle of the roader in a several years. Can anybody name one?

I am almost certain Brock is a member of DU. Some guy over there was taking credit for sending a letter to Rick Kaplan that got Luntz fired.

You mean they hired Mary as one of many consultants. I'm talking about a major hire with a show and headlines.
