A draft wouldnt sit well with many college students who were polled at random on Wednesday in Springfield.
"I'm not for the draft," said one.
"It would be very scary and difficult to accept, said another.
It also wouldnt sit well with some parents.
"I'm not going to send them off to war, said Valerie Griffin. It's ridiculous. If they choose to go to the military, that's their choice."
Griffin opposes the idea of her sons being sent off to war as mandated by the government, a concern sparked by an e-mail message.
"I was panicked," she said.
The e-mail message has been making the rounds across the country. It says very matter of factly that men and women between 18 and 26 better get ready because the draft is coming next year, thanks to bills in Congress to make national service an obligation.

Thank God for local media.
It goes to show, though, how effective this lie is at getting people into a dander.

Thanks for the report; you must have teenagers.
It's been a while since I've watched MTV! :)
I saw that story - too bad they failed to mention the party affiliation of those "fearful" people they interviewed.
THE BOOS THAT ROCKED THE VOTE: KERRY DAUGHTERS RECEIVE RUDE AWAKENING AT MTV AWARDS
Sun Aug 29 2004 23:36:31 ET
MTV, ROLLING STONE and the rock and roll establishment -- past and present -- have cast their vote, and their man is John Kerry.
So on Sunday night when John Kerry's daughters were announced to speak at the annual MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, the MTV youth were expected to welcome his daughters as pop culture princesses.
Instead, in an era of the unexpected, the daughters of the Democratic candidate were met with cheers -- AND JEERS -- during the live broadcast in Miami.
From the moment Alexandra and Vanessa started speaking, the boos outweighed anything close to cheers, and the reaction turned worse when the daughters asked the VIACOM youth to vote for their father. So shocked by the reaction, the taller of the two daughters tried to 'shhhhhh' her peers to no avail.
