CBS Rejects Ads Calling for Rather's Ouster

Trenton—Conservative businessman Doug Forrester was informed that CBS has refused to air his television commercials calling for Dan Rather to step down from the CBS Evening News.

"This is another example of liberal bias. Dan Rather is free to defend a program that used false documents, but a conservative businessman can’t even pay to offer a contrasting point of view,” said Doug Forrester.

Yesterday Doug Forrester announced that he would begin running television and radio spots on New York and Philadelphia stations calling for Dan Rather’s retirement.

Forrester has also begun an internet campaign to collect signatures in support of his effort. By 12:00 p.m. today the website, www.danrathermustgo.com had already received nearly 2,000,000 hits—a truly extraordinary number in such a short time.

"As a public entity CBS should disclose exactly why our ads failed to meet their standards,” said Forrester.

"But more importantly if the standards pertain to accuracy or fairness one has to ask why these same standards aren’t applied to CBS’s news programs. Is CBS willing to air news programs that don’t even meet the standards for their paid ads?”

Dan Rather and CBS continued to stand by the forged documents for nearly two weeks after they had been judged by dozens of experts to be obvious forgeries. Later questions were raised about possible coordination with high ranking members of John Kerry’s Presidential campaign.

"A free press is essential to a free America. But news must be fair and balanced. Dan Rather failed that test and violated our trust. It’s time for Dan Rather to go,” concluded Forrester.

The solution is simple. Stop wasting time with ads calling for CBS to fire Dan Blather. Start writing letters to sponsors of CBS Evening News and CBS programs telling them you refuse to purchase their products -- and then buy competitors products. Also stop watching CBS. If you have a cable system that allows you to block channels, block your CBS channels. The sponsors will realize advertising on CBS doesn't pay and will pull their ads. That will hurt CBS in the pocketbook. Until we hurt CBS in the pocketbook, Dan Blather and Mary Mapes and Company will continue to claim to be journalists but actually be nothing but a pack of liars.

Well, I hate to do it, but I have to come down on the side of CBS on this one. A broadcast company has a right to not accept ads which conflict with its own economic self-interest. An example of this would be the fact that CBS would probably also not want to air ads for tonight's lineup on NBC.

Because it is about political figures, it can seem a bit more intense for all involved- and certainly CBS is a political player now-days. But obviously the truth about Rather is hurting their business and as such, CBS must work even harder than ever to insure the truth (grins) doesn't find its way onto their air.

Their "standards" are a slavish devotion to the leftist agenda. I personally hope they keep Rather at CBS. As long as he's there, CBS will represent the worst of journalism-fraud, partisanship and absolute contempt for the truth. Dan Rather IS CBS.

They took the bait. But stupid rats weren't even smart enough to say no from the start. Now they look worse than if they had "No'ed" right off.

A broadcast company has a right to not accept ads which conflict with its own economic self-interest.

Generally I'd agree, especially if it were CNN or Fox News. But the major networks are allowed the privilege of using taxpayer-owned public airways to broadcast ... the public has the right to demand certain standards from them that we wouldn't expect from a purely commercial media company.

How about CBS's affiliates? What do they say? Heaven knows they could probably use the money.

Networks run ads for programs on other networks all the time. Not that CBS should be forced to run ads it doesn't want to.

Except it would be in CBS' economic self interest to fire Rather...

Tamsey: That's a tough one to prove though and is probably the reason why this one will end up in court.

monday: Unless there is a compelling public interest, they reserve the right to refuse advertising. As above though, a case for the "compelling public interest" is probably going to be attempted.

Wil H: And then there is the CBS economic interest, which I agree is to not only fire Rather, but every single one of the rest of their yellow journalists- the blogoshere "is growing wearing of their double talk" (as the commercial says) ;). And this may be one of the examples used in the lawsuit to draw into question whether or not CBS is more interested in financial viability or being an ideological pawn- even to the hurt of their shareholders...which is a WHOLE other issue waiting in the wings potentially.

Yummy stuff indeed.
