I'm sure they, and their families, think a lot differently than most here on FR about this.

If they are free because of a payoff, then they have created an incentive for more people to suffer and die, and for more unrest to plague Iraq.
Their selfishness and shortsightedness will have injured others - they are cowards and sellouts if this story is true.
I'm sure the next hostages they take in hope of more money, and their families, will think a lot differently than you about this.
I'm sure they do, but you don't make national policy on the basis of emotion and fear. You do it on the basis of reason. And reason says that if you pay ransom, you incentivize kidnapping.
I don't care if their families think the kidnappers should be paid or slaughtered. It's what's in the best interests of the country that counts, especially if you're considering paying a ransom with tax dollars.
War is not about personal feelings...actions taken or not taken affect multitudes.
The payoff will harm multitudes of others ...and yeah, the two women and their families are happy but for how long and at what price...
