Lansing (MI) clerk wading through bogus voter forms (Voter Fraud!)

Lansing clerk wading through bogus voter forms Meridian Twp. also has received fake registrations

The Lansing city clerk's office is sorting through thousands of fraudulent voter registration forms that have been turned in recently.

The city is using $2,000 from its general fund budget to pay for two temporary workers to sort through 5,000 to 8,000 bad forms.

"We're going to have them painstakingly compare each form to the qualified voter file," Lansing City Clerk Debbie Miner said.

Officials believe the forms were turned in by the state advocacy group Public Interest Research Group In Michigan, Ingham County Clerk Mike Bryanton said.

The Ingham County Sheriff's Office is investigating.

Calls to PIRGIM's Ann Arbor office were not returned Friday or Tuesday.

Bryanton said the investigation shows that some people took names out of a phone book and forged signatures.

This is from today's Lansing State Journal (which I can't post from because they whined). You can read the entire thing at http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040929/NEWS01/409290334/1002

I remember this group from my college days. They posed as being a non-partisan, consumer-activist gang.

Isn't PIRGIM a Ralph Nader organization? Are they trying to get votes for Kerry or Nader?

This has gotten very little attention from the media, even though it broke into some papers a week ago. Basically PIRGIM workers have been "registering" voters and getting paid for the number of voters they registered. So these workers figured out that if they submitted phony registrations they'd get paid more. So they "registered" thousands of people who either don't exist, or didn't register, or already were registered.

PIRGIM is a leftist environmental group that was originally inspired by Ralph Nader 35 years ago, though they clearly are trying to register voters to help the Dems.

I wonder if the DUmmies are decrying this "disenfranchisement"?

Posed being the operative word. They are hard core watermelons (green on the outside, red on the inside). They hire bright young things off campus from summer jobs, saying they will "save the environment" and the like, pay them modestly and use them for door to door fund raising, leftist petition drives, and things like this. They also indoctrinate the heck out of them during the months they have them.

I think I've figured it out. They are deliberately sending in knowingly bad registrations. They want to pee in the soup in plain view. If they are going to lose, they are at least going to spoil the meal.

If the leaders of the Public Interest Research group are prosectuted for voter fraud, this kind of thing may stop.

Is it naive to think that all of these stories are actually GOOD news, an indication that voter fraud is being watched for and rooted out?

The same Internet we use to report the news is also being used by Registrars across the Country to check for legitimate voters who have registered and throw out the dead and unknown voters. Should we thank Al Gore for that? :)

Think it is time to do away with motor voter and require every last person who fills out a voter registration card to provide proof of their identity along with their citizenship. Also every state should require identification when someone votes.

I sent an email to the LSJ which is posted at the bottom of the LSJ article.

I believe the votes from Public Interest Research Group should simply be thrown out--no extra money spent. Since they have discovered fraud why bother to spend any money sorting out PIRG's administrative problems, if that is the fact.

Makes one wonder how many years and to what extent this fraud has been going on. Scary isn't it?

Strongly Agree.

It's good that they're watching, though I don't think that this would have resulted in much vote fraud. These were really low level employees trying to scam PIRGIM for performance bonuses. I crossed paths with a few of them, they were people who couldn't get jobs even at a fast food place, so I'm skeptical that this was some grandiose vote fraud scheme. It was more like an effort by some one step above homeless types to get more money for smokes and beer.

I expressed the same thing in my email to LSJ. People need to APPEAR at city hall or township hall with ID to become a registered voter.

Well, if that is the case it even supports the contention to simply throw out the requests received and not bother to verify them. And just who else is going to go door to door when people are out earning a real living. Screw all these type of movements to get out the vote. If a person cannot take the time to walk into the Clerk's office then they do not want nor do I want them to vote on issues they have taken no time to understand.
