Westport's Martha Stewart has been ordered to report to a prison in West Virginia to serve her five-month term, a source close to Stewart said today.
Stewart had hoped to serve her time in Danbury so she could be close to her 90-year-old mother, or in a prison facility in Florida where there are good transporation links.
The U.S. Bureau of Prisons told Stewart last week to report to jail by Oct. 8. The source said Stewart had been told to report to the federal prison camp for women in Alderson, W. Va.
Stewart's lawyer, in a Sept. 15 letter to a federal judge requesting she be allowing to serve her sentence for obstruction of justice as soon as possible, specifically asked that she not been assigned to Alderson because it is not readily accessible by air or rail.
Federal Prison Camps do not have any walls or fences, so an inmate could walk out virtually any time they please.
I'm so tired of the Martha Stewart jokes. She's going to jail for doing what thousands of white males do every single day in America. I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying she was prosecuted for who she is. Why anyone would laugh at someone else's misfortune, esepcially someone who has contributed so much to the happiness of the family and the home, is foreign to me.
Hey, look on the bright side. Alderson is a hop, skip and a jump from the Greenbriar.
How long after Martha gets out of the place will she be preparing "Camp Cupcake" cupcakes?
I've read that Danbury is already overcrowded. should the Dept of Prisons be required to move prisoners around the country to meet Martha's desires? I don't think so.
Well, of course not, they aren't beholden to anyone. I wasn't suggesting that. It is punishment, afterall. Was Danbury the only minimum security prison in the NE area, other than WV? Prisoners are routinely moved around and overcrowding is rampant, are others waiting to serve their time, too? She seems singled out in certain ways.
In WV, she will be doing public service.....
Insider trading is not even a crime in Europe, from what I understand. Profiting from your knowledge is just the way the game is played.
And they have those great cooking schools there. Perhaps Martha could get a furlough to serve as "sous chef" now and then.
Too bad for Martha she profited from her insider knowledge in the USA, where her acts are criminal, however, something she - a former licensed stockbroker - knew full well.
"Hahahaahahaaaha!!!!!!! Hinton, WV.......30 min! lol lol"
It is Pretty there, I started college at Concord. Doesn't Hinton have a lot of wicka activity there. Plus quite a few terrorist cells if I remember correctly.
So you're saying that the THOUSANDS of others who do so don't know...Captains of Industry and POLITICIANS? Terry McCauliffe and Hillary Clinton? They didn't know? OK, she got caught and she's going to do her time. But the whipping this woman is taking is Un-American. And it doesn't become Free Republic because it boils down to class envy, plain and simple.
The lesson is: Don't talk to fedgoons.
LOL I raft on the New every year. Are you from WV? I live in Richmond.
My prior post was not a comment on the merits of the law or whether Martha has been treated differently from anyone else. If a criminal law is in effect, however, I do believe that those who violate it should be prosecuted justly, whether Martha Stewart, politician or business executive. As licensed (or formerly licensed) stockbrokers, Stewart and Bacanovic hardly can be termed ignorant of securities law and the consequences - including a possible prison term - of breaking it.
Hinton, WV!
Hinton, WV!
LOL Ok I'm having a blonde moment.
