Ever notice how the talking heads on television are starting to all seem comical? Its as if the all Saturday Night Live skits have finally taken their toll and the new paradign when watching news anchors and pundits is that they are silly first and might have something serious to say if we could only concentrate.
For me, it began a few days after 9/11, when Ed Bradley showed up on 60 minutes interviewing someone (I cant recall who). I was sitting there watching and all I could pay attention to was Ed Bradleys diamond ear stud. Why hadnt Ed thought to take it out just this once. Why hadnt someone told him to take it out? It was precisely this self-indulgence, this desire to have the news be about glitter and personal style, rather than substance, that was giving us such a weak glimpse of reality. There it was, all encapsulated in that little diamond in Eds ear
From Fox News Laurie Due with her collagen injected lips, to Ashley (wonder-what-her real-name-is) Banfords Lois Lane makeover, to breathless Dan Rathers palbable lust for importance, to Geraldos silly mustache and silly yellow hurricane outfit replete with suspenders, to blonds in Baghdad in full makeup telling us about beheadings, to Ed Bradleys diamond ear stud -- it all is starting to look really funny and slightly bizarre.
And thats the problem. We are living in serious times and looking for serious information. When the focus shifts to the person delivering the information, we eventually notice that information is being degraded and start to look elsewhere for clarity.
Don Imus captured Dan Rather perfectly a few weeks ago. He said watching Dan was like watching a hostage film.
That is SOOOOO true!! It's like the "Silly News" delivered by underwear models! And the guys---they are a hoot! Talk about hairdo's wearing a person! It's difficult to take them at all seriously. The lips are particularly amusing. Especially when they're all slicked up resembling a couple of ballpark franks on vaseline. And what is this trend to wear dangling earrings, a necklace AND and a brooch? It's like the tie w/ matching pocket doohingy in a shade of off purple. Not good.
So? where's the Laurie Dhue kiss .gif file?
"Laurie Due with her collagen injected lips". Nope, those are 100% natural, I'm convinced. No doctor would go that far with collagen.
