CNN) -- Although the Bush and Kerry camps have meticulously crafted an agreement on the rules for this year's presidential debates, the television networks broadcasting them refuse to go along with the plans.

Specifically, the networks object to provisions in the agreement that place limits on their cameras, including prohibitions on shots of one candidate while the other is answering questions.

I'm getting really sick of the role the media is taking in politics.

I guess Kerry doesn't want them taking a shot of him applying his Man Tan while Bush is talking.

I'm getting really sick of all the pandering to the undecided voter. For crying out loud, where have these people been for the last year?

JFK doesn't want there to be footage of him consulting his Magic 8 Ball when forming rebuttals to Bush's answers.

Actually, in this case I agree with the networks. Why should anyone tell them where they can point their cameras?

(Actually, I suspect that provision was insisted upon by the Kerry Kampaign, which knows that their guy won't be able to resist offputting gestures while Bush is speaking).

Me too, but the media is the only way we get to see the debate ! Maybe we could invite the President and Kerry to come to Free Republic and answer questions here, LOL!

I know at least two of them in my church. "Neither candidate represents me," they say. I have to hold my tongue otherwise I would say something un-Christian like, "You are so full of yourself right now it's questionable that Jesus could represent you."

Do them on the radio and let on one officiate - just use a chess timer to control the allocation of time between the candidates.

Do them on the radio, from whereever each candidate happens to be.

Do them on the radio, and let them last for three hours, three times a week.

Do them on the radio, and let them use any notes or aids they chose, including laptop computers.

Bush doesn't need the debates. Kerry does. The media might huff and puff but they agree to the conditions and broadcast the debates. It is their candidate's best remaining chance to 'introduce' himself. They won't mess it up.

W should hold up those shots of Kerry playing football. That would bring the house down and Bush would win all 50 states.

This must be the goofiest. Get the cameras out of there altogether. Let the TV folks just interview one another.

Better yet, have the campaigns ask if there is one network that can go along. Then that will be the network that can air the "debates."
