**Michael Moore to Visit GMU at Taxpayers' Expense**$35,000 for Appearance**
E-mail from Delegate Black | September 28, 2004 | Delegate Dick Black

September 28, 2004

George Mason University Attention: Doctor Alan G. Merten Office of the President (MS3A1), GMU, 4400 Fairfax, Virginia 22030

Dear Dr. Merten:

George Mason University is spending $35,000 for Michael Moore to speak at the school on October 28th. Mr. Moore directed the famously anti-Bush propaganda film, Fahrenheit 9-11. Your Office of Media Relations confirmed that Moore’s payment is from university funds.

How can GMU justify a $35,000 payment for any college speaker? How can GMU pay one political operative so much for one campaign appearance when families are straining to pay your tuition and fees?

Profligate spending for liberal speakers sets a tone for slipshod financial practices permeating the university system. Tax money is being spent poorly, and for partisan purposes.

Has GMU also invited John O’Neil, author of “Unfit for Command,” to speak at GMU for $35,000? Students would be fascinated hearing John Kerry’s background from this famous swift boat veteran, and I am certain Mr. O’Neil would appreciate a generous gift like that given Michael Moore.

I urge reconsideration of your lavish payment to Michael Moore or cancellation of his appearance at GMU. It is partisan politics at its worst and a waste of scarce taxpayer dollars.

Sincerely,

Dick

Colonel Richard H. Black (Ret.)

Virginia House of Delegates

32nd District

Old Dominion FReepers, this injustice cannot stand!! We've got a month to come up with something to stop this from happening...one option is using Sean Hannity to offer to debate Michael Moore at GMU, then watch Moore and his RAT buddies scurry away!!

This is not only a monumental waste of taxpayer dollers, it's also boarderline UN-AMERICAN to give this guy a Forum in the Old Dominion!!

Michael Moore SUCKS the intelligence outta whatever room he addresses...MUD

Good idea Mud! The audacity of the university paying that kind of money to the likes of Michael Moor(e)! If they've got money to burn, they should refund tuition to the parents and to the students.

Isn't GMU the home of Walter "Black By Popular Demand" Williams? Let's see Lumpy try and go toe to toe with him. Dr Willims would have the Lumpster wetting his panties in the first 5 minutes.

Delegate Black is definitely one of the good guys. If the maroons at GMU had 1/100 of his sense they would know better than to think this was a good idea. The universities were all complaining not long ago about having to watch their budgets and now they think it's a good idea to pay Moore this kind of cash?

Thank God it wasn't Virginia Tech.

We need Sean Hanity to Challenge him again.

I just wish that I could make thousands by distorting the facts and playing to an audience filled with hate. But that wouldn't be satisfying.

"I just lost my respect for George Mason University."

It is quite disappointing, my FRiend...if UVA did it, I'd be all over them as an alumni!! Wonder what pull the GMU Alumni has in all of this?

"Good idea Mud!"

Actually, all credit goes to Hannity, who has been offering to debate Mikey Moore at any number of colleges. If we can insist on Fairness at GMU, I think Moore will retreat from the challenge. Moore's a mental midget, and Hannity would have him fer dinner, desert, and dancing...we just gotta git Hannity to issue the challenge at GMU.

"The audacity of the university paying that kind of money to the likes of Michael Moore! If they've got money to burn, they should refund tuition to the parents and to the students."

Or at least fund a concert where the young'uns could git some music to go with their LeftWing Bias...LOL!!

"Isn't GMU the home of Walter "Black By Popular Demand" Williams? Let's see Lumpy try and go toe to toe with him. Dr Willims would have the Lumpster wetting his panties in the first 5 minutes."

That, my FRiend, is an even better idea...maybe Rush could pull a few strings on account of Walter being a regular guest-host on the EIB!!

Alumni usually have a lot of pull. I’m going to have to see how many people I know who were GMU grads – there’s at least one.
