I drove that road last year...from the 101 to Coalinga to take a co worker to Harris Ranch for lunch. It was creepy seeing all those monitoring stations.

We went a bit up from Parkfield on a side road and found a big drilling rig of sorts, different than the other monitoring stations. They were doing some deep monitoring, and my husband, very familiar with drilling rigs, of course had to drive right in past the "No Entry" signs to ask questions.

We didn't get much info, seems to be somewhat hush-hush, but it was interesting. Couldn't wait to get back to civilization, though, so turned back toward Paso. That road to Coalinga is desolate, but Harris Ranch would make it worth it!
