Yeah there's fracture faults dotted around the plains, but they're something like 5.5 every 500 year faults.

Our car froze the ground, the wind was blowing 65 miles per hours and it was like 300 degrees below zero. So you were here in May? LOL!

Don't feel too left out, my friend. When the 8.0 hits us here in L.A., you'll know it! ;) I'll never feel left out. I was in Northridge for the Northridge quake holding my five-day-old daughter. That's enough quaking for anyone's lifetime.

"Sort of sad an idiotic, worthless overnight radio show seems to be the primary source of scientific "education" in the country."
Only for a few people. But, they all seem to turn up here in threads like this one, talking about psychics and predictions and ignoring all the facts about earthquakes and other geological phenomena. Sad, because if they took the time to learn something about the subject, they'd understand how fascinating it is if you know something.
But, they'd rather spout garbage and predict calamity.
I lived in California for 59 years and through many large earthquakes. I'm still here. Now I've moved to Minnesota, and I'm a whole lot more worried about getting through my first Winter here. [grin]

I'm hoping they go back to where they came from after the Big One. Are you kidding? They dominate construction industry - meaning they'll OWN the place.

Some of the aftershocks may be the kids at the Parkfield seismic observatory jumping for joy.

Oh, that's right. Go and bring FACTS into it. In the words of Ronald Reagan, "facts are stupid things." Sorry.

I'm a Veteran of a dozen earthquakes
Been here 40 years and am still waiting for "the BIG one"
And I wouldn't trade it for all the tornados/flood/snow/sleet in Michigan.

Hey, MineralMan. I visited Minn in the middle of winter, and loved it. The cold air there seems dry to me, and the sun shines a whole lot more than in the snow belts downwind of the great lakes.
As long as you keep your car from freezing solid, I think you will find it "bracing".
We get damp cold, and constant grey skies. It can feel colder here at 32 degrees than there at 10 below.

All clear in Georgia. Odd... I didn't feel it in Van Nuys. And curiouser still, we have no tropical weather systems to speak of here.

I recall the local media reporting on the recent swarm of quakes in the Sierras. They were speculating that they were indicative of magma movement, and were talking about the possibility of Mammoth Mtn. blowing like Mt. St. Helens.
