Just felt a quake here in the Fresno area...
Fox News Channel's BREAKING NEWS Alert was warranted today for this earthquake. However, they screwed up yesterday by issuing a BREAKING NEWS Alert to advise the nation that Canon O'Brien will replace Jay Leno in 2009 !
I told a friend TWO days ago CA was due for some big earthquakes soon! Things have been quiet for too long. Considering the Mt St. Helen's activity I think we are in for it.
Don't feel too left out, my friend.
When the 8.0 hits us here in L.A., you'll know it! ;)

I didn't feel a thing in Las Vegas.
Aftershocks are 100% random. You can have 50 in the hour following a quake, or only three a week after the quake hits. Some quakes have hundreds of aftershocks, and others have none at all. It's different for every quake.
If you really want to stress, think about this: it's always possible that this is simply a foreshock to a larger quake. The odds of that will decline substantially over the next few days, but there's no way to know until it hits.
Felt it here in Redwood City.
It was Saturday night...I think it was Morton.
KFI saying downtown SLO is being evacuated?
Isn't San Francisco's Nob Hill solid rock?
I'm just up the peninsula from Sili Valley. Glad my apartment complex and office building have been around a while, but I haven't gone through a 'big one' yet, just a few rollers.
???
>>solid _ock?
ROFL! Stay safe... it's rollin' your way ;-)
felt it, I thought it was a bigger.... 5.9 - biggest I've ever been in; the buildings around SLO are not retro-fitted
I'd hate to be in those store during an earthquake.
Husband is in San Luis Obispo working, he felt it, says they had to shut down one of his jobsites in nearby town afterward.
'Michael Moore must have just taken up jogging."
Yes, he finally realized this is his best chance of influencing America.
Being revised again to 5.9.....with a 5.0 after shock.
"KFI saying downtown SLO is being evacuated?"
I doubt it. A few buildings of unreinforced masonry may have been evacuated, but they do that when a big truck goes by almost. Maybe this will finally get the SLO building owners to retrofit. Nah...
Swarm of quakes, led by a magnitude 5.9 temblor, shakes Central Coast
Most centered just outside
Antonio A. Prado
The Tribune
A magnitude 5.9 earthquake centered 9 miles south of Parkfield in Monterey County shook the Central Coast at 10:15 a.m. today, the U.S. Geological Service has confirmed.
No damage has been reported in Cambria, San Miguel, Paso Robles, Templeton, San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Oceano or Nipomo, though the quake was widely felt.
Public safety and emergency response facilities around the county are reporting to radio dispatchers that they have sustained no damage.
The first temblor was followed by a magnitude 5.0 aftershock four minutes later, according to USGS data.
Among the several aftershocks within a half hour of the initial quake, four were above magnitude 4.0.
MT. SAINT HELENS, WA - Seismologists warn tonight that there is an increased likelihood that Mount Saint Helens could be roaring back to life. A notice of volcanic unrest was issued Sunday afternoon by the U.S. Geological Survey due to recent changes in the mountain's seismic activity. Hundreds of tiny earthquakes began Thursday morning had slowly declined through Saturday. By Sunday, the swarm had changed to include more than ten larger earthquakes of magnitude two to 2.8--the most in a 24 hour period since the last dome-building eruption in October 1986.
Adminmod: Feel free to change the title of this thread...maybe something like "California Earthquake - preliminary 5.9 near Parkfield". I was in a bit of a hurry when I posted...(not to mention still rocking & rolling). Also, I don't think I put it in "Breaking News". Thanks.
