In a show of solidarity with Florida's citrus growers, an orange Kerry, holds up a fist and says, "Power to the Pulp."
MIAMI -- Seeking support in a hurricane-weary state where presidential politics has taken a back seat to Mother Nature, Sen. John Kerry this week turned his skin orange in a show of solidarity to Florida's struggling citrus growers who are feeling a financial "squeeze" as a result of recent hurricanes, campaign officials said Tuesday.
Kerry's complexion made the "immitation-is-the-sincerest-form-of-flattery" transition as many undecided voters in Florida begin to focus on the race, even as residents recover from a triple battering from Hurricanes Ivan, Charley and Frances.
"Orange you glad that I'm here to save you?" Kerry asked the state's battered orchard owners.
Hurricanes have wiped out most of Florida's $200 million grapefruit crop. The hurricane came less than a month after Hurricane Charley inflicted an estimated $285 million in damage to Florida's $1.4 billion citrus industry, mostly to juice oranges in central Florida.
Although the hurricanes prevented Kerry from actively campaigning in Florida--his last trip was on Aug. 20 when he surveyed damage left by Charley in Punta Gorda--Democrats said they remained confident that Kerry's new orange skin color could get his message across to voters in citrus-dependent Florida.
However, campaign officials would not comment when asked what Kerry's plans were if much of the Southeast's blueberry crop were to suffer damage from the hurricanes' after-effects.
"It's gonna be hell to scrub THAT color off if that happens," was all a Sr. campaign advisor would offer.
If that happens, would Lurch become "Papa Smurf" and Edwards be "Smurfette?"

Kerry reminds me of the movie "The Jerk". He is as humorous as the jerk when the sniper is shooting the holes in the oil cans---"HE HATES OIL CANS",the jerk shouts.

I see no humor in denigrating Orange-Americans. They are amongst our hardest working, most patriotic and decent people in the land. Every day they face ridicule and possible squeezing by thirsty fellow Americans. Only Syracuse University gives them any respect. Remember, Orange-Americans did not choose to be this color.

Kerry was yellow in Vietnam, now Orange in Florida. Pretty soon he'll be green with envy over Bush's landslide re-election.
It's not so much the blending in -- it's the biting the ankles.
Actually, kerry said the following.."Damn secret service agent handed me the spray paint can facing the wrong way..I sprayed my face with the orange paint..it's all their fault..the idiots."..
