This deserves a few ping lists. And the talents of someone who can post photos - beyond my skillset.
Prayers for the little soldier, and Thanks to the kindhearted Sergeant Majors at Fort Riley.

With little warning to those present the youngest command sergeant major on Fort Riley, belted out, "Drop and give me 20." With a startled hesitation, all six sergeant majors hit the ground. Counting out each push-up with "one sergeant major, two sergeant major until they had completed the task at hand.
As one Soldier asked "permission to recover," Shriver showed his leadership potential, tossing back calmly over his shoulder, "Recover," and the senior NCOs came to their feet.
I would have PAID to see this!!!!!

Thanks for the article. I worked at Fort Riley for five and a half years. It is a wonderful place, filled with great people.
One sentence in the article bothers me, though.
Shriver's day on Fort Riley was filled with Soldiering.
Soldiering: the life, service, or practice of one who soldiers.
Soldier: (alternate definition) to make a pretense of working while really loafing.
Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary.
The author most likely did not intend for this meaning; poor choice of words, perhaps.

Thanks for posting the photos.
Let us pray that Philip gets his wish to grow up to be a soldier.
Children are finally beginning to have some "true live heroes" as role models.

Maybe the Army wants to reclaim the word from its Beetle Bailey connotation, now that they are all volunteers and professionals, and not spending too much time on KP.

This is true.
My boys and I have been waving at the Army National Guard as they fly over our house in Black Hawks for 3 years...(they've seen us and actually circled our house three seperate times.) Just today we finally figured out how to send them a letter of appreciation. The jedis drew pictures of us cheering them on!

They are heros worth having, that's for sure.

touching story. Good to know no liberal do gooders tried to ruin the boy's exposure to "icky weapons."

Nice to have little artists in your family! Are you going to find a way to send them to the base?
