The U.S. has no plans to deploy troops along the Mexican border to stanch the deluge of illegal aliens currently pouring into the country at the rate of 3 million per year, President Bush said in an interview broadcast on Monday.
"As the governor of Texas, I was very aware of this issue," Bush told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.

"There is a long border, that makes it hard to control. We have beefed up places along the border to try to stop" the flow, he said. When told that his policy didn't seem to be working, Bush insisted, "Its working a little better.
"They're doing a pretty good job down in Arizona, which is the main border crossing. ... I think there's a thousand more border patrol agents along the border. Were modernizing border techniques, were using better surveillance methods to stop this crossing at the border."
The president contended, however, that illegal immigration was driven primarily by the economic realities of the region.
"If you can make 50 cents in the interior of Mexico and five bucks in the interior of the United States, you're coming for the five bucks," he explained.
"I happen to believe the best way to enhance the border is to have temporary-worker cards available for people," he said. "I think the long-term solution for this issue on our border is for Mexico to grow a middle class. That's why I believe in NAFTA."
When warned that "a lot of people are not going to like that answer," Bush told O'Reilly, "Well its a, a truthful answer."
Someone has to be clever and wise. It might as well be me, because it sure as hell will never be you.
Yup...
BTW, here's my point: Joe sure as hell isn't willing to give me money upfront in return for a promise to help unseat Dreier...
But he's demanding that the GOP deliver all that he wants on this issue, in return for a promise to vote on November 2nd.
You and several other individuals are the same ones that have told us *repeatedly* that this immigration disaster, and this titanic invasion of millions, illegally pouring into our country, is no big deal, and is near the bottom of the issue pile.
This alone makes you a fraud.
It's sick how powerful the Rules Commitee chairman is in the House.
I'll never forget during the advent of the "Gingrich Revolution" when nutcakes like David Obey and George Miller were unraveling and Gerald Solomon (rest his blessed soul) would come to the mike and just smack their asses down.
Dreier wields that same power. I'm thinking he doesn't give a rip about morons on the Web.
C'mon, Joe! I'm making you the same offer your side of the aisle makes to the GOP. Why aren't you willing to accept it?
All I'm asking is $2,000 in front money. Once I have the cashier's check in hand, I'll start working to unseat Dreier.
The word "fraud" is Joe's new shiny object.
The specific proposal I was responding to was to have the military on the border, and to have them shoot anyone coming across.
If you're not going to pay attention to the conversation, do us all a favor and STFU. It saves everyone else's valuable time and your reputation.
No, it's just when I see your posts, the first thing that comes to mind is, "FRAUD".
You clearly meet that definition daily.
However, no offense is intended, just stating my honest opinion.
:o
Thass ok. When the next election comes along, you'll respond the same way to the same arguments and emergencies. The only way is to quit cold turkey.
OK, I guess you're one of those folks out there who quibbles about the meaning of "sex," "is," and "shoot."
Freeper
Ever.
Amen, brother!
It won't affect me that much as I will probably live comfortably the rest of my life. What really bothers me is my new grandson will have to grow up in a different nation than I did. A far far worse one imo.
I grew up in the 50's when government schools were very good and the teachers taught patriotism and Christianity without even thinking.
If we happened to have had a Moslem student he would have been treated with decency and respect but no one would have allowed him to disrespect our ideals either.
I am sure schools in Southern Louisianna taught Catholicism and we didn't mind a bit. That was what most people were and they had a right to have their own morals in their own schools.
The original post made it clear that the poster was NOT arguing for non-lethal means.
I have no problem with something like that, I just think that the 'militarize the border' crew don't realize how nasty that will get. I think they have a childish view of things and they seem to be inattentive to the violence that would be the fruit of that move.
Good thoughts, and there wouldn't be a significant public outcry.
I agree 100%. I just reject the paradigm that sees it as either 'you are for an open border" vs "get the soldiers and shoot them on sight."
I have said explicitly said illegeal immigration is a problem. I have also explicitly said that shooting runners on sight is not realistic, nor a popular tactic.
There is a range of options between the two - people need to look at them all and stop wanting to play 'army.'
He is right.
