The U.S. has no plans to deploy troops along the Mexican border to stanch the deluge of illegal aliens currently pouring into the country at the rate of 3 million per year, President Bush said in an interview broadcast on Monday.
"As the governor of Texas, I was very aware of this issue," Bush told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.

"There is a long border, that makes it hard to control. We have beefed up places along the border to try to stop" the flow, he said. When told that his policy didn't seem to be working, Bush insisted, "Its working a little better.
"They're doing a pretty good job down in Arizona, which is the main border crossing. ... I think there's a thousand more border patrol agents along the border. Were modernizing border techniques, were using better surveillance methods to stop this crossing at the border."
The president contended, however, that illegal immigration was driven primarily by the economic realities of the region.
"If you can make 50 cents in the interior of Mexico and five bucks in the interior of the United States, you're coming for the five bucks," he explained.
"I happen to believe the best way to enhance the border is to have temporary-worker cards available for people," he said. "I think the long-term solution for this issue on our border is for Mexico to grow a middle class. That's why I believe in NAFTA."
When warned that "a lot of people are not going to like that answer," Bush told O'Reilly, "Well its a, a truthful answer."
Canadians don't come here anymore for health care. As soon as a Canadian is admitted to the hospital or ER, it is mandated that the hospital call the Canadian government insurance program. The Canadian government decides if that person gets medical care by the US or if the Canadian government come down here and fly that person back for care in Canada. The Canadian government pays all of their citizens health care. I have seen the Canadian government fly all the way to McAllen to pick up their patients.
Well, I was against militarizing the borders, but now that you've weighed in...
Huh? What?
You sure have changed your profile.
No longer a Marine tasked to the Embassy Guard unit?
That ain't infantry. State Department I believe.
How many troops would be required for deterrence, for the thousands of miles of borders that we have?
You're dead wrong about that..
You can bet your kerry that the MSM is watching us like hawks, collecting all of the off-the-wall nutty comments. Sometimes I wonder if these people aren't just trolls trying to plant crap like this on us, should we ever become too influential.
Most of these guys who are frothing at the mouth don't give a rat's democrat about the law. They just don't want their precious "white culture" diluted. Being married to an immigrant, you should be able to see my point. Whenever you see people wrinkle their nose at your wife's accent, or stare accusingly, remember how it feels. That sort of madness will never do us any good.
So the majority of FReepers are Trools's eh??? Ayup...Thru 94 posts, I hadn't read a racist one til I got to yours...We're talking about terrorists entering the country thru the open borders and illegal people sneaking into the country stealing our taxes thru social services and our jobs...Not to mention, adding up votes for the Democrat Party...You're on the wrong topic...
What century was that?
Verify they have a legitimate Social Security number and other papers that match. When the guy the INS deported from your shop a week ago shows back up with a new name and new card --- it's a pretty good bet he's illegal --- but there's a machine shop in Michigan that did rehire someone like that ---- but they know --- most of their employees aren't speaking English at all --- that's another clue.
I believe part of the problem in Texas with property taxes is that there is no state income tax...so they get it where they can. Same story everywhere...
Having said that (and without doubt, a bunch of people will jump in screaming about that statement), the point you made can be generalized to this: the Caudillo's of Mexico have figured out that if they can just shove enough warm bodies into the U.S., they can vote to take the country away from us, one lousy tax sale at a time. All with the help of leftists who believe that the poor of Mexico deserve our wealth and property, and we don't.
This is demonstrated here in Northern California in a very concrete way every day. The leftists in the government here routinely vote to erect public housing for 'low income' people (wink wink. Guess who), no development can go forward without a holdout section for 'low income' renters/subsidized owners, and areas that used to be single family dwellings are routinely bought up using county money to be converted to 'high density low income housing'...once again, to be subsidized (rents at less than 1/4 market, typically).
William Hawkins painted the whole picture 12 years ago in his book Importing Revolution: Open Borders and the Radical Agenda. It amazes me that he nailed the program so well, and terrifies me to see it unfolding as he predicted, since like you, I'm at ground zero of this disaster.
Joe Hadenuf and a shotgun.
Depends on whether or not the law is constitutional. But you knew that. Some of the proposals on this thread would probably do more damage to our freedoms than they would solve.
I bet fewer people would die than do now.
You mean "Mira Juana corre".
What would your fair tax proposal do to discourage al Queda types from waltzing over?
Nothing.
I'd propose a Swiss/Israli type scheme to defend the homeland. An assault rifle in every closet does wonders for discouraging unwanted guests.
They're not looking to take jobs. They're looking to take lives.
Gee, -- who would have guessed..
LOL!!!
That's not an opposite notion, really. The opposite would be Mexican soldiers shooting down americans making a break for mexico. :-)
In any case, I am sure there would be a deterrent effect, but even with the military presence a lot of folks will try to take advantage of the holes. Enough of those folks being shot dead will be more than enough to turn the stomachs of all right-minded Americans.
There has to be a better way. We need to think of one, since illegal immigration is a huge problem.
Sheesh. Here we go again. I'm not going to repeat again my objections to using the SS number for this purpose. I've already stated them in several of my comments above on this thread.
How high would the fence be? How would the U.S. government be able to put mines on private property?
Not_enuf...
Have you ever heard of imminent domain? It would only take a few feet.
