The U.S. has no plans to deploy troops along the Mexican border to stanch the deluge of illegal aliens currently pouring into the country at the rate of 3 million per year, President Bush said in an interview broadcast on Monday.
"As the governor of Texas, I was very aware of this issue," Bush told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.

"There is a long border, that makes it hard to control. We have beefed up places along the border to try to stop" the flow, he said. When told that his policy didn't seem to be working, Bush insisted, "It’s working a little better.
"They're doing a pretty good job down in Arizona, which is the main border crossing. ... I think there's a thousand more border patrol agents along the border. We’re modernizing border techniques, we’re using better surveillance methods to stop this crossing at the border."
The president contended, however, that illegal immigration was driven primarily by the economic realities of the region.
"If you can make 50 cents in the interior of Mexico and five bucks in the interior of the United States, you're coming for the five bucks," he explained.
"I happen to believe the best way to enhance the border is to have temporary-worker cards available for people," he said. "I think the long-term solution for this issue on our border is for Mexico to grow a middle class. That's why I believe in NAFTA."
When warned that "a lot of people are not going to like that answer," Bush told O'Reilly, "Well it’s a, a truthful answer."
Leaving aside terrorism for a moment, the most serious problem here with uncontrolled mass migration, is the difference in culture/socioeconomic mores. We will never be able to assimilate that many people all at once and so, we'll lose our national identity, and with it, all that makes this country great. Maybe we need a national dialogue about it. Maybe we should simply ask Mexico to become another state...which they won't because of cultural/socio...differences. When NAFTA was bandied about, etc., there was much talk about erasing borders throughout the hemisphere, making one free trading zone. For some reason, Canada doesn't seem keen on this arrangement...the erasing borders part.

Bush has yet to see a bill passed by the Congress that he will veto, no matter the topic or even his views of its perceived Constitutionality (look at his comments when he SIGNED that abominaable McCain-Feingold thing); he has yet to see a dollar lying around that he won't spend, no matter for what; he sees no liberal bed so disgusting he won't lay in it (like his romp with Teddy No-Pants and the education thing or the prescription drugs bill) and on and on, ad nauseum.
I ask not for perfection; only adherence to the Constitution. For that, Bush is NOT the man... neither is Kerry, but W's the topic here.
I agree with that. So why not make it more difficult to let our borders be invaded illegally, especially when we at war with an enemy that takes our slightest virtue and uses it against us?
Forget Latino illegal invaders for now. What about Muhammadans?
We are at war against suicide bombers and if one of them walks across the border, isn't that potentially too many?

Simple background check like they normally do with any other employee: photo ID (drivers license), birth certificate (which all natural U.S. citizens have) or naturalization papers / passport/visas/green-cards for legal immigrants.
It's a routine part of normal hiring practices.
If the law has no force behind it, why bother having laws? Can we all just pick and choose which laws we want to follow? If so, I'm gonna start carrying my 9mm every where, driving as fast as I think I safely can, and I'm gonna stop paying taxes for government services and programs I don't use.

Oh yeah, when a third of my income goes to support a government eager to give benefits to any and everyone on the face of earth, constitutional freedom has already been abridged because I have no say in WHO gets what. To sacrifice a little piece now so we'll be better abled to say who gets what is nothing compared to the price coming due if we allow the status quo to continue....

And, just how are these documents supposed to be verified? Or are the businesses just supposed to take the applicants' word for their authenticity?

As I have said numerous times on this thread, therei s no public mandate to stop runners "one way or the other." Most americans don't want to see nice Mexican folks dying on the border.

No. Things just have to change before people make the border a priority. There is no mandate to get violent now. That may change.

The wall may not be considered extreme to us, but to the average american, it probably would be considered extreme.
Again, there is no mandate to do such a thing. Any Freeper who thinks there is a public mandate has a problem evaluating the political landscape.
