For the past year or so, members of San Francisco Voice for Israel (SFV4I) and the local chapter of ProtestWarrior.com have been counter-protesting the so-called pro-Palestinian crowd regularly in San Francisco. And last weekend, they took the fight to Berkeley--to great success. The following after-report was written by Dan Kliman, a member of the SFV4I organizing committee:
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in South Berkeley, the anti-Israel faithful gathered to hear two of their favorite anti-Israel propagandists. San Francisco Voice for Israel was right there to counter them.
In an event sponsored by Jews for a Free Palestine and the Middle Eastern Childrens Alliance, Uda Walker and Susan Green spoke out against Israels anti-terrorism barrier. They demand that all of it be torn down, not just the parts that dont follow the 1948 Armistice line, known as the Green Line. While they spoke to an audience of 33 people, roughly eight of them stayed outside to observe approximately 30 pro-Israel activists holding Israeli flags, dancing to Israeli music, and holding signs reminding conference goers and passersby that if there were no terror, there would be no fence.
The spirited multigenerational group came as quite a surprise to the anti-Israel crowd. They made a few phone calls and a meager counter-protest materialized. They held signs calling the USA and Israel affronts to humanity and held aloft the usual signs equating the Jewish Star of David with a Nazi Swastika. Additionally, they taunted us with their by now customary anti-Semitic chants of "Go Back to Brooklyn!" and "Go Back to Russia!"
The public was clearly on our side this time, as evidenced by the honks and cheers of support from passing cars containing passengers of all races and ages. As is common at our rallies, passersby engaged us, offered us help, and joined in the protest by holding signs and flags.
Once again, the enemies of Israel showed their true anti-Semitic and anti-American character, and once again, we were there to confront them. As our voice continues to grow stronger, we will be there to confront the enemies of Israel wherever they appear.

Thanks for the report!
But, who are they voting for. With the support Bush gives Israel why do they keep voting dem.?
Well, I can't speak for all of "them" but if you're talking about Jews, many are starting to vote Repub and I believe Bush will be the beneficiary come November.
isnt the green line the 1967 border? not the 1948 one?
they have nothing else to do there-
-most, if not all, of the Palestinian students and ME activists were rounded up months ago after 911 (300 of them) and shipped to PaleolithicLand by FBI and CSI. -this is just the snake's tail wriggling at sunset after the snake 's head was cut off
-3,000 ME sudents and activists were rounded up at SF Bay area campuses after 911 and shipped somewhere-
one student Palestinian frenchfryer who worked at the BKing told me her brother just disappeared one day. Next week she was gone too without a trace. (that' s the name of that tune!
No, the Green Line is also known as the 1949 Armistice Line, which lasted until the '67 war...

The first Green Line referred to the 1949 armistice line between Israel and the Arab nations (Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt) following Israel's 1948 War of Independence. The term "Green Line Israel" refers to these borders that lasted from 1949 until the 1967 Six Days War.

Didn't mean to do that twice---sorry!
Great job! Thanks for the report.
If Arafat was YOUR neighbor, YOU'D build a fence TOO.
Wow, great work. Time the commie/fascist learn they are not going to get by with this c*** anymore.

Protest Warriors Are Our Friends

"There is a difference between being cool and being effective. There is a difference between working to impress people who agree with you and working to change things.
"The Protest Warriors' actions make them cool, but help the Left far more than the Right. I'm sure most right-wingers love seeing that there were people who showed up with signs making fun of the anti-war protesters. But thats the only real audience that the Protest Warriors aim to impress. Their goal is to get a mention on Rush or Savage. They want recognition from the cool people in their scene but they really are not fighting the Left as much fighting for recognition from other right-wingers.
"Part of the shift in the US that resulted in Reagan getting elected was due to associations in the public mind between radicals and wingnuts who believe in crazed conspiracy theories. This was partly pushed on the public by those who disliked the left, but it also resulted from direct interactions people had with the more fringe people on the Left.
"Luckilly these days the image of the right has outcompeted the radical left in terms of craziness. First there was the sterotyped militia member who believed in a UN conspiracy to take over the US with black helicopters. Now there is Savage Nation and Protest Warriors. When you thing of right-wingers you no longer think of stuffy rich intellectuals like William F. Buckley Jr. You no longer even think of the paternalistic father figure that Reagan acted to get his majority. Now you think of bombastic insecure windbags like Rush and irritating people who who show up at other people's events with snide signs."

What I found out

"I got first hand confirmation that the Jewish Community Relations organization helped to facilitate and in fact joined in with the Protest Warriors from someone who met with them in a meeting before the march. On top of that we saw the two busses the Protest Warriors came in parked outside the Jewish Community Relations organization on Steuart Street. On top of that-- just take a look at many of the Protest Warriors. Some of them are definately Jewish, you can tell by the way they look. After all, they are an ethnicity. Some Jews just look like Jews. Just like some Irish people look like Irish people. Anyone who has an eye for ethnicity can tell."
