Rush mentioned during Friday's show that the rumor floating around on the internet is that Mary Mapes is the person who actually FORGED the doccuments.
This may have been fully vetted here and my search missed it. If so, please pull this thread.
Otherwise, I wondering if there is any reporting on this "blogosphere rumor."

Rush ran a spoof today that clearly suggested that Bill Burkett was the forger. And there is no way that Mapes knew enough about military memos. Granted the memo was full of holes and completely inconsistent with what it would have actually looked like, but it was still vastly different from what I would imagine a CBS memo would look like.

The problem with Bill Burkett being the forger is that the format of the memo would have been correct. He also would have written the date in the proper military style and used the correct abbreviations for rank. I could go on ...
I heard his program on Friday and I believe he was being fascisious (spelling)- he went on that some believe its even tied to Michael Moore - he was not serious, just rambled a little bit

Why a stretch? She`s been researching the story for 5 years, she`s read enough docs to get the layout and general lingo, if the story doesn`t air now it never will. She`s liberal enough, there`s no "Lucy Sanchez". Granted it`d be too good to be true.

My guess is that Burkett or some other ex-military type supplied a "sample" memo and the Bush memo was fabricated elsewhere. My thinking is that neither Mapes or Rather had any prior knowledge of this in order to give them "plausible deniability." Then again, Mapes has a history of breaking the law, take a look at this story.

Mapes the forger?. Nope dont think so. Maybe they sent her out to buy the paper. Mapes was at best a courier. These memos were done by a young campaign aide using inputs from Burkett and with the guidance and review of political operatives within the Kerry campaign.

IIRC, Burkett was ARMY National Guard, and they did things slightly differently, using Lt. or dates slightly differently...and that was another giveaway as to the memos being FABRICATIONS.
I am really tired of this not getting any more press...
or the spin, that it is equal to the Swifties...(stupid NYTimes)...
