Torture worse than terrorism: Danish torture expert
Agence France Presse | Sept 27, 2004 | AFP

Posted on 09/27/2004 12:55:00 PM PDT by propertius

COPENHAGEN, Sept 27 (AFP) - Torture is even worse than terrorism "because torture is carried out by the state", a Danish torture expert will state before the Congressional Human Rights Caucus in Washington this week, according to a copy of her presentation obtained by AFP on Monday.

"Terrorists and tortures may very often use the same methods. But while the state will protect its citizens against terrorism, there is no one to protect the victims of torture," Inge Genefke, a Danish neurologist and the founder of The International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT), states in the document.

While Genefke defines terrorism as "evil acts against humanity, sometimes targeting states but always hurting innocent people and damaging their lives forever", she insists that "torture is even worse, because torture is carried out by the state or by representatives of the state".

The torturers themselves need to be punished, but most importantly according to Genefke, the responsible decision-makers need to be held accountable.

"The worst criminals are those who give the orders ... These people are the outlaws of modern civilization," she states.

In June Genefke accused US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld of being responsible for the widespread torture discovered at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, claiming that it was "unacceptable and indecent for such a high-level representative to push responsibility for physical and psychological torture onto his subordinates".

Ah just waiting for someone to say this. I'm sure fellow freepers would agree that putting a pair of panties on someone's head is way, way worse than flying planes into buildings and killing thousands of people.

This Dane has the brain of a great dane. scratch that. It's an insult to our canine friends to compare him to a dog.

Especially the inhuman, horror filled "women's panties over the head" torture. Or the "standing around naked while a little butch points at your privates" torture.

Oh!! the humanity!!!

As the inimitable Bugs Bunny would say, "What a maroon!"

Torture can be committed by almost anyone. It is not limited to states or those working for one.

It is depressing to bring up, but it is likely that those presently beheading innocents on video will work their way up (or down) to recording more extended torture before finishing off their victims.

Wait a minute, this bozo is talking about Abu Gharib? Not about Hussein or North Korea or Cuba or Iran?

I was wondering where this article was going until I got to the last paragraph. Yeah, prisoners under Saddam (now in mass graves) should have had it so rough as to be released with memories of a mere naked pyramid or two.

This woman's a "torture expert?" Is she some sort of Danish Dominatrix??

Torture is even worse than terrorism "because torture is carried out by the state"...

***

A statement free of evidence. Maybe this is just a typical ham-fisted recap that leaves out the nuances of what she really said, but as it stands, it assumes all torture is carried out by "the state" which is, of course, ridiculous.

Even if that were so, what about "the state" makes torture worse than terrorism? What about terrorism carried out or sponsored by a "state"?

This is just a bunch of horse***t cooked up in the Euro-weenie Labs that comes under the heading of "What crackpot theory can we come up with based on nothing more than principles of situational political convenience (to be later discarded the moment they apply to OUR sacred cows) to make America wrong today?"

Torture expert? What are her credentials? She founded a human rights group, but so what? Every third damn hippie on the planet has founded their own human rights group.

Oh no, North Korea and Sudan and so on don't commit acts of torture, surely? It's only American privates who commit acts of barbarism on the instructions of the radio in their heads controlled by Donald Rumsfeld. Surely you knew that????

This reminds me of that old "blacks can't be racist because they don't have power" canard.

What a crock.

Ok, I know you were being sarcastic but think about this. What if they were Teraysas or Hillary's panties. Not so funny anymore is it?? Huh? Now we are talking real torture.

Torture is even worse than terrorism.

What is this? One of those, "Would you rather slide down a bannister made out of razor blades into a barrel of alcohol, or stand on your head...."

Do I have to choose one or the other? Why not answer "C": I'm opposed to both terrorism AND torture?

What an idiot. She must be a professor at some university. Nobody else would say anything so stupid.
