Jeanne Winds Blow Man Through Plate-Glass Window

POSTED: 10:37 am EDT September 26, 2004 UPDATED: 8:43 pm EDT September 26, 2004

A man in Orange County, Fla., was injured Sunday when winds from Hurricane Jeanne lifted him off the ground and blew him through a plate-glass window, according to Local 6 News.

Local 6 News videotaped the rescue moments after the man was tossed through the window of the Ambassador Lodge Hotel on Orange Blossom Trail.

The victim was severely cut on both arms and was transported to a local hospital.

There was no word on his condition.

Jeanne had weakened to a Category 1 storm with 85-mph top sustained winds by the time it hit Orange County. However, its 400-mile diameter continued to cover most of the central part of the Florida Peninsula, including Tampa, Orlando and Daytona Beach.

Gusts Reach 123 MPH In Ft. Pierce

Officials in Ft. Pierce, Fla., recorded peak wind gusts of up to 126 mph early Sunday as Hurricane Jeanne made landfall, according to Local 6 News.

When the storm came ashore, peak wind gusts of 104 mph were also recorded in Vero Beach, Fla.

As the storm tracked across Florida Sunday, wind gusts of 97 mph have been confirmed in Sebastian Inlet, 87 mph in Boyton Beach and 69 mph in West Palm, Local 6 News reported.

Parts of Tampa, Fla., were receiving wind gusts of 50 mph as the storm's eye moved south of Orlando, Fla.

Also, about 400 people were transferred from the special needs shelter at the Sherwood Elementary School in Melbourne after parts of its roof blew off, police Lt. Jeff Koska said.

No one was injured, and the evacuees were brought to another shelter, he said. About 100 patients at a similar shelter in Fort Pierce were transferred after its roof started leaking, but no one was injured, St. Lucie County officials said. (1 image)

Hmmm...standing outside in a hurricane? Give this idiot a Darwin Award (even though he isn't dead) ...yet.
