With Muhammad revered throughout the Islamic world as al-insan al-kamil, the perfect man, the rapes of Darfur and Beslan are not surprising.

Of course. If Islam isn't a tailor-made culture for a rapist, I don't know what would be.

This and the other thread ("Arab women encouraged Darfur rapes: Amnesty") makes my skin crawl... and the pacifist on the "U.S. Bombs Fallujah; Eight Dead, 15 Hurt" thread is weeping over America???

It is insufficient that Muslims denounce specific atrocities or even barbaric practices. Every Muslim must at every opportunit be directly confronted with and repudiate the very religious bases that promote or appear to many Muslims to promote violence against non-believers, rulership over non-believers, inequitable relations with non-believers inside and outside of Muslim countries and fair treament of women, both Muslim and non-Muslim. That means repudiation of dhimmitude and jizrah (Koran 9:29-30), lying to promote the religion (taqiyyah, 16:106), renigging on treaties and bargains with non-believers (Hudaibiyah, Koran surah 9), murdering those who convert from Islam (16:106, 3:90-91, 2:217, 4:89), inequity of punishment ("no Muslim should be killed for killing an infidel", Bukhari 4:52:283), all their Hadiths and fatwas about killing Jews until the stones say "kill the Jew behind me" (Bukhari 4:52:177, 4:56:791, Muslim 41:6981-6985) etc. and repudiate government based on Shari'a. Cut them out of their books and replace them with condemnation of those beliefs and practices. Of course then they would no longer be Muslim.

What is surprising, or ought to be, is the silence from the Islamic world about the rapes in both cases. Where are the reformers who will dare to say that Muhammad's example must not be followed in this case?

Both of the Islamic moderates live in mortal fear, for if either of them speaks out, they know they will be killed.
