Cheap lights... do we want to stitch names into stockings? I can cross-stitch something.
We, in the Hobbit Hole did stockings for a platoon in Baghdad last Christmas. I found inexpensive felt stockings at a discout store, and using gold glitter paint, painted the name of each soldier on a stocking. They were absolutely thrilled to get them! The advantage to the glitter paint is that it would go quicker than cross stitch. I did 25 stockings in less than an hour. Then various folks sent gifts to the woman handling it, she stuffed all the stockings and mailed them to her son in law who was the Captain of the platoon.
This year, we've hooked back up with a logistics group going to Afghanistan, so we'll be doing something similar for them this Christmas, I imagine.
Using glitter paints would go much more quickly! I did this last year when a member of the Hobbit Hole had a son-in-law in Baghdad, and we did stockings for his platoon. I painted each of their names on a stocking, sent them to her, and she filled them with goodies donated by other members of the group.
I'm thinking this would be a great project for my Girl Scout Troop. There are 12 girls, and we could have each one bring a dozen of something to put in a stocking decorated with "Merry Christmas" in gold glitter paint. I might even be able to get another troop in on this. Are there women in this group, too, or just men?
OK, once they're all together, to whom do we send them? Would it be easier for us to just send them directly to the contact in Kirkuk? I'd be happy to handle that, if y'all just tell me what I need to do.
