This is a light-hearted trial balloon from the Hard Left. But it's a topic that has intruiged me for years. In this
ancient and outdated Publius Essay from 1999 I explored the secession of Texas and Utah under the Hillary Clinton presidency.
I'm working on a new Publius Essay about the coming splintering of the Democratic Party, and I hope to have that ready after the election. As the forces of the Left lose their ability to influence national policy, one of my suspicions is that we'll see more talk like this.

Actually it would be a good idea to remove Washington and Oregon (really, Northern California all the way to the Canadian border) from the American defense perimeter.
That way when the North Koreans hit them with nuclear warheads we need not be bothered!

A recent CNN poll on swing states showed that Washington was the only state that supports John Kerry even more than it supported Al Gore.

This is the second OpEd I've seen today that involved claims that more educated citizens vote Kerry, while the uneducated mo-rons in flyover country are voting for Bush.
I think we all knew that the left felt this way, but it's surprising they're beginning to openly admit their arrogance.

Notice that he said "most educated." He didn't say "smartest." There's a huge difference.

People actively talking about this sort of thing really seems to indicate we've got a second Civil War on the horizon.

Regarding the article saying that God was punishing Florida for what happened in 2000; Maybe he was just punishing the tens of thousands of Democrats who were illegally registered in New York AND Florida. If we factor out the illegal sleaze vote it wasn't really close at all. Seriously though, the bible is clear that the rain falls on the just and the unjust.

Get some lawyers to work poring over the Oregon treaty of 1846 with Britain...perhaps Washington and Oregon really belong to Canada after all. Or we can tell the Brits that we have changed our minds and will accept the Columbia River as the border (which is what the British wanted).

God sent the libs a message in Washington with Mt. St Helens. And it's rumbling again. Even libs oughta get the message.

If three hurricanes in a row slamming into Florida right before the 2004 election isn't a clear sign from the Almighty that he wasn't pleased with how things went in that state in 2000, I don't know what is.
I feel sorry for God. For all the absudities he's blamed for.

Publius, as you know, Seattle proper is where the Dem support is and the rest of Washington state is predominantly more conservative - dare I say - Republican. The rest of the state is also who produces all that he thinks are the "weapons" he will use to coerce the rest of the country. Liberal Seattle are the ones who are not happy with a Bush Presidency, but if they seceded, they would have nothing to offer the rest of the world. Jets, software, hops, apples, lumber, energy, etc. are all produced in the "red" parts of the state outside of Seattle.

If the rest of the more conservative, less educated citizens of the United States decide that W is a great leader and he gets re-elected, it's time for desperate measures.
The arrogance and condescension of that statement astound me.

Well, when you have a community in Seattle which propped up this old statue of Lenin, why would anyone be surprised? Washington would overwhelmingly support Lenin if he were the DNC nominee

George Bush wouldn't HAVE to do anything - What this guy is advocating would lead to an internal civil war in this state... one the liberals would not, could not, win...
On the plus side, there would be a lot fewer liberals in this state at the end of it, wich means this state would no longer be in the "D" column...
Go for it, dude!
