Sir, it doesn't matter if your son is a buck private or a full bird colonel, or if he's fighting in Iraq or Mogadishu.
He's one fine Marine, and you have every right to be very proud of him.

MAY THE GOOD LORD BLESS HIM AND HIS BROTHERS-IN-ARMS, AND KEEP THEM SAFE FROM HARM!

SEMPER FI!

"back at his home base at Twenty Nine Palms."

Well, he swapped the Arabian Desert for the Mojave Desert.
There's probably no other base in the world as well equipped for desert warfare training.

I thank God for bringing him home safe.

I have to question your post...

Forgive me on being sceptical.

I am not questioning your patriotism, nor any of your family members.

I am questioning, why are you implying that this is your son?

Reading into your posting, I get a feeling you aren't related.

You are wrong on 3 of 4 of your counts.

Figure which ones...

Because I gave him the sticker & gave the lady who posted the picture the recent photo. She asked me permission to use it.
How am I wrong??????? Sounds like a Kerry fan that tells you what you should know & how to be correct in their eyes

We've had 'forum trolls' sign up and claim to be related to people mentioned in articles, or claim to know people in articles.
The rank on the flak jacket is similar to the Army PV2/E2 'private' rank.

Do try to understand why there is some skepticism here.
Thanks for responding.

My son told me they issues "additions" to their body armour. Not sure what that means except hopefully more protection. He has never explained the insignia, but he is a squad leader

Thanks

welcome.
Additions likely means ceramic armor plates that go into the pouches internal to the vests.

Also there's work being done on kevlar arm covers and leg protection.
But that's still a bit away from practical combat use.
(The kevlar fabric tends to be bulky and stiff inhibiting movement to the point of being impractical in field use at the moment.)
