... In 1978, the Commandant of the USAF Survival School, a colonel, was a former POW in Ho Lo Prison -- the Hanoi Hilton. Dragged from a stinking cesspit of a cell, cleaned, fed, and dressed in clean PJs, he was ordered to describe for a visiting American 'Peace Activist' the 'lenient and humane treatment' he'd received. He spat at Ms. Fonda, was clubbed, and dragged away. During the subsequent beating, he fell forward upon the camp Commandant's feet, accidentally pulling the man's shoe off -- which sent that officer berserk.
... "From 1983-85, Col. Larry Carrigan was 347FW/DO (F-4Es). He'd spent 6 [product] years in the Hilton -- the first three of which he was listed as MIA. His wife lived on faith that he was still alive. His group, too, got the cleaned/fed/clothed routine in preparation for a 'peace delegation' visit.
"They, however, had time and devised a plan to get word to the world that they still survived. Each man secreted a tiny piece of paper, with his Social Security number on it, in the palm of his hand. When paraded before Ms. Fonda and a cameraman, she walked the line, shaking each man's hand and asking little encouraging snippets like, 'Aren't you sorry you bombed babies?' and, 'Are you grateful for the humane treatment from your benevolent captors?'"
"Believing this HAD to be an act, they each palmed her their sliver of paper. She took them all without missing a beat. At the end of the line and once the camera stopped rolling, to the shocked disbelief of the POWs, she turned to the officer in charge ... and handed him the little pile of notes.
"Three men died from the subsequent beatings. Col. Carrigan was almost number four.

I was just 8 years old during her 1972 visits. Many years later, I just didn't pay much attention to her.
Now that Kerry had made Vietnam a central piece of his justification about why I should vote for him, I wanted to see more about Jane, given that not a word from her has been heard during this entire 2004 campaign. Google 'jane fonda' and this is the second article ... implying that what she did is now an URBAN MYTH.
To the Vietnam Vets out there, esp. former POWs, I am sorry I didn't pay attention to this before. I have paid really really close attention to this campaign, but have ignored Jane Fonda b/c she was just another liberal voice out there....
What I have learned is she is NOT just another liberal voice. She DID things, despicable things. And today, she's doing the 'Vagina Votes Campaign', raising money for Kerry, attacking Bush by calling him a 'radical ideologue'?
How dare you Jane ... you have blood, literally, on your hands for what you did. You need to grow up and say you are sorry, though sorry will never make up for what you did. You deserve prison.
There is only one explanation for your madness ... first your Dad must have simply ignored you when you were growing up, and then Ted Turner must have done more of the same.
I bet Henry Fonda's father was a real low life creep too...
Jane Fonda later apologized for her actions. John Kerry has yet to apologize for his Senate testimony.
Hmmn. Conflicting tales, eh?
bump
"Jane Fonda later apologized for her actions."
I have heard this, but I haven't seen sources. Was this a real, bona fide recantation, or a brief political whitewash?
Weren't Fonda's lefty 527 donations on a par with Soros'?
Thanks ... and it's true, we shouldn't mislead here at FR, and it wasn't my intention to do so about Jane.
My excerpt was limited to 300 words ... the overall thrust of the whole article is that Jane Fonda is a pathetic woman, who did, in deed, engage in treasonous acts, many of which harmed POWs.
"Weren't Fonda's lefty 527 donations on a par with Soros'"
To the tune of a mere 13 million dollars (she's the third highest donor) .... here's the link:

"Jane Fonda later apologized for her actions. John Kerry has yet to apologize for his Senate testimony."
Jane Fonda said that she regretted any harm that she caused. She (it) did NOT apologize for her actual actions.
