Don't know if I want to say "Good news!" or "Drat!" ...
8<) Glad there's no damage at his place: We spent two weekends picking up the (light) debris from the last two hurricanes that hit FL....

I believe we are losing or have lost our sources on the East Coast. The winds have probably knocked out many transformers or they are preoccupied with the rising winds.

i was one of those speculaors when I lived in NC.. I was a real estate broker & got some unbelievalbe deals, that I bought with only plans to turn over in one year. I did make lots of money & did keep on peice of property until I left area. Mistake. I should have kept it.
Capitalism is good. I never gouged people. but did take advantage of their fear & anxiety in getting out quick. I always bought "as is"

Just talked with some good buds in Melbourne (close to Rt.1 car dealerships...
No power but still phones - 100mph gusts and steady 60mph.
There's a ton of debris left over from Francis that is now airborne. Tarps (that once covered damaged roofs) flying by like the errant bat out of hell)

Not terribly - the angle of entry isn't going to much NW at all... holding that track very slightly N of W.

I'm a capitalist myself but our low income housing currently starts at $475,000 here in the Keys and few can afford it, we have a dwindling work force.

I truly believe it is good that now & then we loose some of our advantages to really appreciate them & understand how much of the third world lives.
When I made my several extended trips to Haiti over the years, I found that I could make due (did not say was happy) without air conditioning, power, running water.
Each time I returned home I filled the bathtub & relished the blessings we have in USA.
We are so blessed & take so much for granted.
That being said, I want no hardships or harm to my fellow Americans & hope all here on FR have minimal problems, damage & financial loss.
God Bless

I don't wish anyone any harm in the storms path but if it stays on land instead of on the water it will die a lot quicker.

It is going to be a dark, hot and scary and dangerous night for many people in Florida. Wish em luck.

Roofers will come in from out of state, from all over. You have to be careful with them, though, lots are dishonest and incompetent.
After Andrew, we ended up with a contractor from Finland of all places, he was a good guy, though.

We've done really well in this county.
Charley turned inward (when a direct hit was predicted) and we caught just the northwest corner of the storm...hardly any rain or wind.
Frances caused widespread power outages (lasting up to 7 days) and flooding in low lying areas on the bay (but these areas can flood in a heavy rainstorm). Power was the biggest problem, but we did have lots of trees down (we live on a golf course and I was amazed at the amount of trees felled by the wind which was only about 50 mph.) Plus everybody had piles of yard debris, but no real structural damage to any building, at least that I saw.
Ivan missed us, surge into the bay again caused the low level areas to flood, a little breezy, some rain.
So here we go again. But this wind tonight is really blowing. I'm surprised that this early we've got this much wind.
We took our boards down last Sunday, and put the ones over the picture windows up this afternoon, as the winds will be blowing directly toward those windows (I'm concerned with breakage from debris hitting the windows).
I fully expect to lose power in the not too distant future.

Wow we have a lot in common I spent 5 years working in Haiti and learned to love the people there, but their govt. is in shambles, just watching food riots in Gonaieve on FNC.
