Thought a thread in Breaking News for the weekend covering Hurricane Jeanne would be a good thing. Post your link, pics, updates and freeper check-in's here
I had a fishing buddy for awhile (he's passed away now) that was in Miami for the storm of 26 that ended the land boom and the one in 35. Was also here for Andrew in 92. He had stories about going down to the Keys after the Labor Day storm, with others from Miami, to search for bodies and survivors.
Was the 28 storm the one that killed so many in Palm Beach county with flooding from Okeechobee?
Yes. It was called the Okeechobee Hurricane. Killed thousands when the Lake broke the shores.

"But it is the loss of life that separates this storm from almost any other. Between 2,500 and 3,000 county residents died that day, making it the second-deadliest natural disaster in U.S. history, behind the Galveston, Texas, hurricane of 1900."
Thanks, I read the thread, what a horror story.
Where are you in VA? My mom is in Roanoke and I didn't realize what rain they might get. I'm in Philadelphia and a colleague just brought in the Phil. Inquirer with the pic of a boat on the Roanoke River.
