In the first step toward erecting a multibillion-dollar shield to protect the United States from foreign missiles, the U.S. Navy will begin deploying state-of-the-art destroyers to patrol the waters off North Korea as early as next week.
The mission, to be conducted in the Sea of Japan by ships assigned to the Navy’s 7th fleet, will help lay the foundation for a system to detect and intercept ballistic missiles launched by “rogue nations.”
Washington hopes to complete the network over the next several years.

I don't care how "costly" it is. Compared to the possible cost in American lives if we don't have a shield, $51 billion is chump change.

The best defense is a good offense. 10 megs is a lot cheaper than a missile shield, the cost of fueling dd's and supplying, never mind the cost man power. Stop wasting time, money and lives. Hit them so hard they can't get back up and if they do, it will be because we re-build them re:Japan.
It isn't just for the U.S. - it's also to help feed early warning data to the Japanese AEGIS systems. I doubt seriously if the NKs could hit Hawaii but I durn tootin' know they could hit Tokyo.

This IS negotiating: they don't fire any missiles, we don't shoot the missiles down and then turn Pyongyang into a parking lot paved with trinitite.
What would have to be taken out first in a conflict with DPRK is the missiles they have aimed at Seoul.
I bet that we have the plans to Kim's underground bunkers. They will do him little good if things on the surface go our way.

Meet the US 7th fleet. They are the profane, mean, ornery, loveable, and full of fighting tradition. They are the best armed and best trained group of sailors the world has ever known. They have changed the course of civilization at least once.
