I must not be seeing what you are. I'm sympathetic about her losing her husband, but I don't think she will be a goof fit for the MP ranks. As a matter of fact, I believe the Pentagon should be in the process of  purging women out of this rank altogether. In case you have not been following this Iraqi war, the women serving in this rank and MI have been performing poorly and have had a detrimental effect on their unit's ability to operate and carry out missions. They've failed miserably in key leadership positions, created a juvenile sexually charged atmosphere, showed a lack of military discipline, and have attacked male members of the force to cover up their inadequacies. It may sound sweet and lovey-dovey, but her background indicates to me that she is a party girl really joining to satisfy more carnal needs.

I believe that women in combat roles are a bad idea. Personal experience proves it to me beyond a shadow of a doubt, as I saw just the atmosphere you describe during my Navy career. Nevertheless, I salute her decision to take charge of her life faced with the loss of her husband, instead of joining with the widows and parents who view the loss of a loved one as an excuse to disparage our President, troops, and the war they are fighting. I don't think we can sit here, without knowing her, and make up our minds as to her motivations. I give her my support hoping that she makes the right decisions and is doing this for the right reasons. If she is she will suceed, if not she will be shown for what she is. While we may want to change the way women are deployed in the military, we should support the people inside the system even when we disagree with the system.

Given what she's now gone thru, I'm willing to bet she's a changed woman. She might just straighten up and fly right, and surprise us all.
