Ohhhhh please!!! Ahhhnold just signed a banned on guns that use 50 caliber bullets. I've never tasted foie gras, don't think I want to, but giving into these whack jobs sets the stage for outlawing reasonable things.

Your arrogance and condescension are very telling. The quality of the animal meat is an objective measure of the animal's health. Animals that are treated poorly are unhealthy and do not have quality meat.

You are suffering from what is known as projection. You are saying YOU wouldn't like to be treated a certain way, therefore the cow wouldn't either. This is irrational.

If an animal is healthy, it is being treated properly, regardless of your personal FEELINGS on the matter.

I agree about priorities. While I don't like to see animals mistreated, haven't these people looked around to see what's going on in the world???

How about getting outraged about say, the cruel "treatment" of humans....

like the ones getting their HEADS SAWED OFF!

The difference is that a living thing is demonstrably suffering to make a delicacy. If an inanimate thing is involved, I'd agree.

Not that I agree that your moral formulation is binding, but I will agree it deserves consideration. That aside, what's your source on the practice of fois gras farming?

Oh, darlin' you missed my point! I said all things within reason, that's all. I don't think it's kind to torture an animal before killing it. I'm not opposed to eating meat, though. Perhaps you should read my post again.

Not particularly bothered by the concept, but it seemed counter-productive at first read. I was thinking that meat is bought/sold based on weight, but this tactic would seem like it would reduce the weight, so there must be some fairly important alternate reason for it.

That's common for transfer of ownership. The buying feedlot or slaughterhouse pays based on weight so they'll withhold food & water for 24 hours before weighing the animal to get a "honest" weight --and then pay the supplier.
If the animal isn't going to be slaughtered right away, it's returned to the pen and allowed to eat/drink as normal.

I agree, we are better people if we don't torture animals but some of these folks make it the reason they live.

Can people eat pate if the animals aren't mistreated? Say from regular livers. Paul would probably say no.

It's delicious, but it can just as easily be made from regular goose livers. There is no need to treat the animal this way, except to yield a larger liver (more money).

Thanks, I wondered about this. But McCartney is against all meat eating which made me wonder if he'd support this.

I've never had any either. Is there something else in my limited dining vocabulary that it compares to? I'm trying to figure out if I would like it or not.

I don't like a few things, but I remember being given pate as a kid and I really liked it. Course if I'd been told then it was made of goose liver I never would have eaten it. :)
