Hispanic voters' role in '04 seen overstated

While President Bush and Sen. John Kerry have set up aggressive campaigns to draw Hispanic voters, the nation's largest minority bloc is unlikely to play a decisive role in the 2004 presidential election, based on their past voting records and their populations in battleground states. Although election analysts predict more than 7 million of the nation's 40 million Hispanics will vote on Election Day, the bloc represents 7 percent or higher in just five battleground states: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Florida. "This race will be determined primarily by white voters," said Bill Frey, a demographer with the Brookings Institution think tank, who has analyzed Hispanic voting data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau.

I have to agree with this article..."Hispanic" is just a loose term refering to a "language". Latins are spread all over the political and racial sphere as the rest of voters

When I watch the Spanish channels...just to check out the babes..I get the distinct impression that they are overtly Pro-American and Pro-Republican...I seem to notice lots of US flags and a love of the US. I also like the bosoms.

I watch Univision, Telemundo, Azteca, etc. and believe me they are NOT pro-American. Much like any other network you have individual stars that are pro-american but as a whole they are not.

The news programs are absolutely the worst, specifically the local ones in southern california.

Case in point, soon after 9/11 the Border Patrol conducted enforcement sweeps in the airports and bus stations. These were routinely reported on those stations as "Anti Immigrant or Anti Hispanic Roundups", as if legal immigrants were being rousted by jack booted thugs.

So, in summary the chicks are smokin' hot but the news is to the left of Mao.

Washingtontimes is suffering from temporary insanity. The only group outside of W's core group (White Conservatives - which by the way is not enough to put him over the top by any means) that he has any hope of drwaing *any* support is Hispanics. Thankfully he and his advisors understand that (even if Washingtontimes has lost their mind) and are doing best to court Hispanic voters.

Without FL, NV, NM, and AZ, W doesn't have a prayer.

Another fact that these guys ignore is that CA is not even mentioned. I guess because the reality is that those Hispanics have mind already made up and everyone realizes CA is lost cause.

What these fools are ignoring is that AZ, NV and NM are potential CA's of tomorrow, whether we like it or not.

If we want to keep our party in 'W' column, we must embrace Hispanic Voters.

I recently was told by one of my Hispanic clients that the majority of legals in this country strongly oppose the illegals. I was shocked and asked my buddy who is a pastor in Texas. He said, the divide between the two groups is so profound that most of the Hispanic churches in Texas are divided, with the legals and illegals on the opposite sides of the churches.

Univision in Miami was pretty balanced in their local reporting. Their national reporting was something else, however.

BTW: Univision is owned by a Republican, Jerry Pernicino, who doesn't speak Spanish!

I'll second that. I was watching one of the soaps on Azteca one night, and the main character was sitting there having lunch and reading Michael Moore's "Dude, Where's my Country?". Either they were pushing their anti-American agenda, or the production crew knew where to get cheap props.

Lose the hyphen folks, or at least if you insist on emphasizing your differences don't be surprised when people begin to think of you differently and treat you differently.
