CNN: Bush Can Claim Over 300 Electoral Votes
Captains Quarters ^ | 23 September 2004

Posted on 09/23/2004 10:40:45 PM PDT by Lando Lincoln

CNN's polling shows that George Bush has a grip on 301 Electoral College votes based on state-by-state polling, with John Kerry fading in the Midwest and his chances of unseating the incumbent fading fast:

President Bush this week reached a symbolic milestone, overtaking Democratic challenger John Kerry in New Hampshire and Iowa to claim more than 300 electoral votes in CNN's weekly Electoral College scorecard.

If the election were held today, Bush would receive 301 electoral votes to Kerry's 237, according to a CNN survey based on state polling as well as interviews with campaign aides and independent analysts. ...

Bush currently leads in 33 states, including the country's entire southern rim (except California) and the mountain and plains regions. Kerry leads in the District of Columbia and the remaining 17 states, including all of the West Coast and most of the Northeast. The two candidates continue to battle for control of the industrial Midwest.

One Democratic strategist gave an interesting analysis: the candidate who controls the Mississippi controls America, a proverb going back to the Civil War. Right now, that candidate is George Bush, who leads in almost every state that borders on the river. Kerry gave up yesterday on Louisiana, Arkansas, and Missouri, and have always led in most other river states. Only Illinois has been solidly Democratic, although recent returns there have indicated it might be back in play, even given the disastrous candidacy of Alan Keyes for the open Senate seat. Wisconsin has turned into an almost certain win for Bush, and Minnesota -- which hasn't gone GOP for thirty-two years -- is a dead heat.

Take a look at this sea of red:

And this assumes that Kerry takes Pennsylvania, which has begun to look more reddish-purple than bluish-purple of late. Minnesota and Maryland have trended GOP the past month as well, and even New York may be within the margin of error. Kerry is in deep trouble.

Yes, after a landslide (or almost-landslide), the liberals won't be able to whine that Bush "stole" the election, even though later analysis proved he still would have won the election.

What do you suppose they'll complain about then? Perhaps that because of "stealing" the election in 2000, he had the unfair and undeserved incumbency advantage and still would have never won?

I'm sure they'll come up with some victim-based conspiracy theory.

If Kerry gets caught in the perfect storm, it is possible, but probably not likely. Here's what I see. If NJ, Pennsylvania and Florida all go for Bush, well they're all in the Eastern time zone. The MSM would be pulling for Kerry, but they can't resist the urge to call a state, and they're afraid that if Fox scoops them by a couple of hours it will be even more embarassing. If Bush can pull to within striking distance, this could depress western states Democratic voting. In this scenario, Bush could not only win, but his coat tails could result in a pretty good scenario for the House and Senate.

This was part of what made Carter's shellacking so bad against Reagan. He conceded before the polls closed on the west coast, and this cost the Rats several seats in Congress. Although no Rat is stupid enough to do what Carter did, the liberal pundits have all but made Kerry's concession speech for him.

What would be perfect is if Kerry couldn't get his voice back in time for the first debate, or if he sounded like Horshak from Welcome Back, Kotter.

Yes I can, got this in email yesterday from the Chairman of the Republican Party in Illinois.

Another poll has been released showing the Presidential race tightening here in Illinois. According to American Research Group, Inc., John Kerry's lead over President George W. Bush has dwindled to only six points (49%-43%). This is the second poll in as many weeks showing the Democrats losing ground in Illinois. There is much work to be done between now and Election Day. As a result, we need you to get in contact with the Field Representative in your area to find out how you can help Republicans win up and down the ticket. You can participate in phone banking, precinct walks, sign distribution, poll watching, and many other activities to help the Republican slate. The contact information for our Field Representatives is below. Please call or e-mail them and find out how you can help in your area. Sincerely, Judy Baar Topinka Chairman, Illinois Republican Party --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

because it's not "scientific" - it's not by a polling outfit that calls 6-700 people chosen by a formula. It's just tens of thousand of real folk - and AOL is not a 'conservative' sight - anybody can vote.
It's the same as when Reagan was running against Mondale. The pro-polls were even higher for Mondale that for Kerry now. They had a phone-in poll where anyone could call. Millions did. And millions said landslide, 2 to 1 for Reagan. The dems hollered "that's not a scientific poll!" and "Well, the rich republicans could afford to make more call than us poor dems." etc.
Mondale won only his home state.
So the AOL poll may not be "scientific" - but it's real.
and notice on the chart (click chart behind map ) that the chart has flatlined now for the last coupla weeks - that indicated that most people have now made up their minds...and there's a really big spread.
So come on, let's all think positive. One - Two - three - : it's going to be Reaganist landslide for our man. ("course, Bush is the only real MAN running anyway.)

Do NOT get cocky. It's not over until Kerry is back home in one of his mansions crying on TahRahZah's shoulder and she is pushing him away in disgust.

Any idea when this poll was taken? I think ARG polls tend to lean DemocRAT.

I want Bush to be so far ahead in the last week that he can campaign for our Senate candidates, so that we can pick up a bunch of new seats.

"you all know what a dem-o-state Illinois is!"

Why is that true? The only explaination I can think of is that the city of Chicago is more populace than the rest of the state?

George W. Bush voters wear Red Corduroy shirts.
Men's 1950s bright red corduroy shirt. Great style- red buttons, horizontal button holes, straight hem, 2 chest pockets w/ buttons & pleats, hidden top button w/neck loop and small 50s collar!

well hopefully kerry loses.

then we can make "John Kerry is not my president" shirts...which in a way make no sense, but its a chance to rub it in to those annoying liberals.

The last I read it was Kerry by 15...I love California, it has been my home, though I have lived most of my life in Texas,I just don't get the politics there...I do not understand such a BIG Kerry lead.
