OSLO - Israel's ambassador to Norway urged Oslo on Thursday to remove a metal sculpture from a central square, branding it anti-Semitic.
"For me this sculpture abuses freedom of expression in the most serious manner and should not ... be allowed to stand in a public place," ambassador Liora Herzl said in an open letter.
The rectangular three-meter high work called "The Wall; fragments of history" has the date of a 1947 resolution that established Israel beside the word "Holocaust."
One Star of David on the work is partly covered by red paint, apparently meant to look like blood, and one side includes a row of words: "Ariel Sharon", "destruction," "rape, killings," "Shatila," "Sabra" - recalling the 1982 massacre of Palestinians by Israeli-backed Christian militia in Lebanon.
Oslo City Council said the 2004 work, by Sigurd Bjoern Engvik, had been on display in the corner of the Youngstorget square in central Oslo for three months without anyone complaining. It is due to be taken down in a few weeks.
Ping
Denmark?
Was that the pool of blood which had a photo of the smiling suicide-murderess floating on a little wooden sailboat? The Israeli ambassador pulled the plug on the lighting setup.
I beleve Norvegian Anti-Nazi resistance fighters are spinning in their graves. Nazism prevailed.
The reparations to "war babies" crowd call the resistance a myth.
Let's remember that the Euro.s are the ones who believed for thousands of years that the Jews kidnapped their kids to abuse and eat as some part of plot to enslave the world.
Describing Israelis defending their lives from some of the most barbaric fanatics in history as some sort of crime is not beyond them.
very appropriate picture
