Dad Says School Duct-Taped Son's Pants

DUNLAP, Ind. - An outraged father of a seventh-grader says an assistant principal duct-taped his son's pants to keep them from sagging then sent him back to class.

Scott Allison told the Concord School Board on Monday that his 12-year-old son, Spencer, said last week that a teacher asked him to lift his shirt after she noticed the boy's underwear was showing above his pants, a violation of Concord Junior High School's dress code.

She sent him to Assistant Principal Patricia Walters, who told Spencer to pull up his pants and tuck in his shirt, Allison said.

"She then proceeded to duct tape his waist, three times around the waist," said Allison. "Then she sent him back to class, in front of his peers."

He said he worried his son would be mocked by his classmates at the school in the town about 20 miles east of South Bend.

"This outrages me and shocks me," Allison said.

Allison also said that Spencer's underwear would not have been exposed if the shirt was left down.

"I don't understand what motivated her to ask him to lift up his shirt," he said.

Board President Randall Myers said the board would not discuss personnel issues in public. Junior high Principal Kevin Caird said student discipline is confidential.

Maybe he should buy his kid some pants that fit instead of letting him run around looking like a gangsta.

Maybe next time he'll obey the dress code.

What a great dad - he's not concerned by his son's total lack of discipline or penchant for dressing like a criminal - he's worried that other kids might make fun of him.

The boy needed a belt. No one wanted to see his nappy drawers.

Some people are way too easily shocked and outraged. Note to dad: Your son doesn't want to come through my class.

Isn't it amazing that these "gangsta" pants still come with loops for belts?

If he wanted to show off his damn underwear that badly, they should have pulled his pants down to his ankles and duct-taped them there.

I've ripped my blue jeans at work before (in the rear end) and duck taped them. It works. Duck tape rulz.

If this kid is not worried about walking around with pants that look like you took a dump in them, then he shouldn't be worried about some duck tape holding them up.

Nothing wrong with school uniforms. At my old school you could wear a blue or a white shirt with the uniform but that's about as wild as it got. We were there to learn, not model the latest fashions.

At least they didn't use staples.
