COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Former President George H.W. Bush on Wednesday called a recent CBS News account of his son's military service an "insidious" attempt to malign the president.Although he endured negative coverage during his own presidency, the elder Bush said he has a hard time dealing with critical media coverage of his son.
"This disgraceful thing with CBS, trying to malign our son's service as a jet pilot, was insidious," Bush told about 300 Republican supporters at a private ballroom on the city's east side.
CBS and anchor Dan Rather apologized Monday for a "60 Minutes" segment that quoted documents, purported to be from one of Bush's commanders in the Texas Air National Guard, saying George W. Bush did not take a medical exam as ordered and that the commander felt pressured to sugarcoat an evaluation of then-1st Lt. Bush.
Rather said the network could not determine if the memos were authentic.

GO POPPIE!!!!
Get Bush on the major news circuits!!! You go Bush 41, give'em Hell!
But his opinion can't count because he is too pro Bush.
lol! HOW TRUE!!!
GHWB has become a much loved figure over the years. Partly due to buyers remorse with BJ, but also he is more open to people. His skyjumping certainly has been inspirational. I gather he has quietly been raising funds for charity.
I'd just love him to take Rather out back and smack him silly.
I like the fact that he does not pull punches anymore. He just lets people have it.
He already did once: spanking Gunga Dan for walking off the set in protest of the sporting event that was expected to cut into his airtime and causing 6-7 minutes of "dead air."
That said, the Republican response has been masterful. Every time there's an opportunity for the controversy to fade, we come up with a new way to resurrect it.
Rove didn't start it, but I suspect he's got a lot to say about the way it's playing out.
CBS uses fake docs saying President Bush got preferrential treatment....leads to higher ups in the DNC....at the same time their new ad campaign begins, called "Favorite Son".
Coincidence? NOT!!
This may be all about sour grapes but they taste sooooooo sweeeeeeeet.
When Scott McClellan was doing the daily briefing yesterday, I would guess that he said 10 times and in 5 different ways that the CBS matter was "extremely serious" and that it "demands further investigation." (paraphrased)
No, they're not gonna' let it go. That's just not happening.
I think that may be against the Geneva Convention... assymetrical warfare and all that...
And I hope that W will file a lawsuit on November 3!
Semper Fi,
Kelly
I'm tired of Republicans just taking all the RAT abuse lying down dead.
We need to sick Nonni Barbara on them!
