KVI Seattle's John Carlson is breaking a story about Mary Mapes...she did something like this at KIRO TV in '87...Carlson telling story now live
"I'm sure I've mispelled some things up there."
I'm sure "if" you did someone will be along shortly to let you know.
She was also the producer of Danny boy's 1988 slander of Vietnam veterans called "The Wall Within". They used fake 'veterans' and were exposed by B.G. Burkett and ABC's 20/20. ABC won a Cine award for their show.
gotta go. someone get online & takover!
That all depends upon what the meaning of the word 'if' is....
Not the same B Burkett, I surmise?
Mary Mapes: A bush lover and a Bush hater.
No, this one is B.G. (Jug) Burkett, author of "Stolen Valor", a book that told the truth about Vietnam veterans. It's an awesome read.
She's going to be served up on a silver platter pretty soon. CBS will try to obfuscate and delay, via the appointment of a independent panel to look into the whole mess, and do it after the elections so as not to cause itself any further embarassment and basically admit to collusion with the Kerry camp.
Wouldn't surprise me if she's put on a sabbatical, or something like that.
"Mapes probably passed along Burkett's number to Lockhart"
Someone pointed out (maybe it was Rush, maybe it was here) that that just doesn't make sense. Burkett (whatever his manifest failings and flaws) was a pretty involved Dem activist. As the person put it:he knew the people, who knew the people who could put him in touch with the Kerry campaign. If he actually gives $$ I'm sure this is true.
There's a lot more dirt that is going to come out on this.
You're right. I'm just saying that the jackals have started eating each other now, and that everybody (known and unknown at this point) is aggressively trying to cover their own backsides. Basically, throwing each other "under the bus", so to speak :-)
And let me guess - he was just some guy who knew absolutely nothing about the case, and was a fraud, a plant, and was "used" by Mary Mapes to further her agenda against the SPD. Am I close? I also bet she was REALLY furious when the police were exhonerated, right?
Message # 12 (Aug 21): I spent some time on the phone with the Kerry campaign seniors yesterday
after having to threaten to whip a little ass in order to get through seven
layers
of bureaucratic kids trying to get a job after the election. I talked with
Max Clelend.
I hope he got the message, but even if he did, I'm not sure that his side of
the issue can beat out the other half of the advisors. And that's a problem.

What's scary is that 10 or 15 years ago, CBS would've gotten away with it. Before the advent of the internet, talk radio and 24 hour news channels, the Big 3 (ABC, NBC, CBS) controlled, for better or worse, the content of news that was broadcast to the public.
On the newspaper side, the New York Times, Boston Globe and L.A. Times had the same sort of oligarchistic power. After all, who would've been there to challenge their suppositions?
The reporter says that the "witness" wasn't actually a witness at all but a drunk who stumbled up after the incident and asked what happened. So Mapes' cheif witness in this story, that caused a huge uproar, was thouroughly discredited - and the talk show host draws a parrelel to Burkett.
ping
What is even scarier is that if they had the good sense to use a typewriter for their forgery, they would have gotten away with it THIS time.
Does anyone really believe in the existence of an unknown citizen named Lucy Ramirez, btw? Jeez....for a senior office in the Guard, this guy Burkett seems to be dumber than a New York Democrat :-)
Apparently Dan Rather believes.
I was close ;0)
