"Mapes probably passed along Burkett's number to Lockhart"
Someone pointed out (maybe it was Rush, maybe it was here) that that just doesn't make sense. Burkett (whatever his manifest failings and flaws) was a pretty involved Dem activist. As the person put it:he knew the people, who knew the people who could put him in touch with the Kerry campaign. If he actually gives $$ I'm sure this is true.
There's a lot more dirt that is going to come out on this.
You're right. I'm just saying that the jackals have started eating each other now, and that everybody (known and unknown at this point) is aggressively trying to cover their own backsides. Basically, throwing each other "under the bus", so to speak :-)
Message # 12 (Aug 21): I spent some time on the phone with the Kerry campaign seniors yesterday
after having to threaten to whip a little ass in order to get through seven
layers
of bureaucratic kids trying to get a job after the election. I talked with
Max Clelend.
I hope he got the message, but even if he did, I'm not sure that his side of
the issue can beat out the other half of the advisors. And that's a problem.

If Burkett wanted to get in touch with the kerry campaign, why wouldn't he take the simple route?
Ben Barnes
BTW--Ben Barnes has been noticeably out of the picture. By design?
I think Burkett is being offered as the sacrifical lamb to hide the bigger scandal.
Ben Barnes & Kerry are buds. They both have a place on Nantucket.
Ben Barnes gives a talk at a fundraiser in May. The topic is his shame at how he pulled strings to get Presidnt Bush and others into the National Guard.
It was quite a folksy little talk. He is on record as saying he was totally unaware it was being taped.
The Prowler has an article saying Barnes made the tapeat the request of his friend, John Kerry.
Too many little coincidences converging in the first week of September.
So while we are all chasing Lucy Ramirez, who may not even exsist, Barnes may be sitting at home thinking what a bunch of idiots we are.
Ben Barnes cannot be lost in the shuffle.
