Kerry Reaction to Bush U.N. Speech ("It's Over")
National Review Online ^ | 9/21/2004 | Jim Geraghty

Posted on 09/21/2004 12:50:33 PM PDT by Rutles4Ever

UPDATE: It's over. Boy, maybe it's me, but I think he's getting worse as the campaign wears on. He's got the gist of a strong message in there — "Bush is too optimistic about how Iraq is going, it's time for us to be prepared for the worst-case scenario." But it's hard to keep that from slipping into a gloomy "all is lost, we'll never fix this dump" message, and I don't think Americans want to hear that. His criticisms are specific and his solutions are vague. It's apparently not that hard for any old jihadi yahoo to get his hands on explosives and set off a car bomb in Iraq; that kind of stuff is going to happen no matter what American policies are. Same thing for these vicious beheadings of these hostages - unfortunately, U.S. troops can't be on every corner of every street in every city.

The best way to stop these atrocities is to prove that they won't achieve their objective, which is to drive the U.S. out and let the jihadis take over the country. These cheap-shot bombings and kidnappings will stop once the jihadis conclude there's no point.

But nothing Kerry says really addresses this, other than to suggest that men like Abu Zarqawi will suddenly turn tail and run once they see French and German troops with boots on the ground in Basra.

A moderate majority of Americans, while frustrated by what's going on in Iraq and a little annoyed by what sounds like Iraqi ingratitude, don't want to give up and leave the place in anarchy. And Kerry's rhetoric sounds way too defeatist right now to win over a majority.

The cover for cutting and running in Vietnam was 'Vietnamization'.

Looks like Kerry's proposed cover for cutting and running in Iraq is 'Internationalization'.

We need the French in Iraq.

Someone has to show the terrorists and other scumbags how to surrender.

I was trying to sleep and left the TV on in the other room, I was rudely awaken to a bitching and moaning John Kerry today on Fox News, I laid their in bed listening to this idiot field question and suddenly I wasn't mad anymore, the more he talked the deeper in the hole he was getting. Anyhow I'm still pissed off at him for his stupid speech style where he he thinks he has to yell for people to hear him, I tried to go back to sleep but can't thanks flip-flop. :(

"First I picked Edwards BUT now I pick Hanoi Jane!"

Edwards played football in 1971 when he turned 18
instead of serving in Vietnam.
Hanoi Jane at least was a Viet Cong!
Just like me!

We hate US Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

We hate all US Troops!

This would make Iraq an anti-Vietnam. Get the French into Iraq and leave. Instead of the French getting the US into Vietnam and leaving.

I can't even pay attention anymore to this election
What W is doing to the media and to the D's is beyond scary
It's like watching a snuff film or a twenty car pile up
Just look at the debates:Kerry wanted that 3rd debate so badly that he gave up everything under the sun so now he has his 3rd debate but Bush has so many concessions that his chances of winning all 3 are vastly improved.Someone stop this before Kerry gets killed

I don't think this is about winning a majority any more.

Kerry is actually losing his base, and his belligerent stance of yesterday and today is aimed at his shaky anti-war backers.

If Kerry's campaign thinks it's going to convince voters to back him because he's going to cut and run, thus enabling terrorists to bring the war over here, they're truly delusional.

Try a glass of warm milk, or run a PFT! that should do the trick.

I wish that someone at Fox would pick up the piece from a couple of days ago:
http://newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/9/19/101103.shtml
which cuts one of the legs off of Kerry's "I'll put together a real international coalition" stool.

With this logic we haven't "fixed" So. Cent. LA, or Harlem for that matter.

But, I hear Martha's Vineyard is fixed, though.

He forgot that we covered the French retreat from Vietnam and that got us in there. Now he wants the French to cover our retreat from Iraq?

I don't know. Although it is a risky strategy, I think this will help F'n.

In order for it to work, he needs the following:

1. The MSM to only report bad news out of Iraq and constantly use words like "quagmire" and "failure" (check).

2. The terrorists to step up their attacks in Iraq and kill more soldiers (check).

3. Finally, it would be helpful if some GOP Senators like Lugar and McCain echo his talking points and help undermine the President (check).

If the GOP has a counter-attack planned, I hope they unleash it soon because if Kerry does start to gain traction with this approach, he could get right back in this race very quickly.

"Bush is too optimistic about how Iraq is goiIS ng, it's time for us to be prepared for the worst-case scenario."

Bush has been too pessimistic about Iraq in order to keep expectations low. It's been going better than the press has reported. Also - Kerry IS our worst case scenario.

It is troubling to me that this man is in a position of power. I watched Kerry today say that knowing what he knows now, he would NOT have invaded Iraq. Nevermind it directly contradicts a statement he made not more than two weeks ago. How arrogant and sick this guy is. He really thinks that most people will not realize how much he contradicts himself. As if we are all dog arse stupid!!!
