This brief comparative study presents video footage released today of Mr. Arafat's primary spokesperson - Dr. Hanan Ashrawi - addressing an overseas audience in English alongside two TV programs broadcast last week in Arabic on PA TV. Dr. Ashrawi's message of "peace with justice for Palestine and Israel" did not translate over to the Arabic broadcast of outright incitement to murder Jews, "the brothers of monkeys and pigs."
The PA Message in English
In honor of the International Day of Prayer for Peace, the World Council of Churches posted on its website today a video message from Palestinian Authority spokesperson Dr. Hanan Ashrawi. In an eloquent address, Dr. Ashrawi declares: "Peace with justice is not an abstract value; it is a real determining factor of our lives. It is a most basic human right, and we appreciate everything you've done, in order not just to talk about peace with justice for Palestine and Israel, but also to act on that basis."

While Dr. Ashrawi was convincing an English-speaking audience that "peace with justice.. is a real determining factor of our lives," a video address from the same Ramallah offices was broadcasting a very different message. Palestinian Media Watch (PMW)captured footage of two PA TV programs in three days showing official religious leaders openly calling for the genocide of Jews.
The PA Message in Arabic
In his sermon of Friday, September 10th, 2004, televised on PA TV, Sheikh Ibrahim Madiras told the Arabs of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza: "The Prophet said: the Resurrection will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Muslims kill them. The Muslims will kill the Jews, rejoice [in it], rejoice in Allah's Victory. The Muslims will kill the Jews, and he [the Jew] will hide. The Prophet said: the Jews will hide behind the rock and tree, and the rock and tree will say: oh servant of Allah, oh Muslim this is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!. Why is there this malice? Because there are none who love the Jews on the face of the earth: not man, not rock, and not tree everything hates them. They destroy everything. They destroy the trees and destroy the houses. Everything wants vengeance on the Jews, on these pigs on the face of the earth, and the day of our victory, Allah willing, will come."

In both the above sermon of Sheikh Madiras and the address of Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Maadi which follows, the religious leaders present the killing of Jews not merely as the will of Allah, but also as a necessary stage in history that should be carried out now. This call to murder Jews by Mr. Arafat's Arabic language TV station stands in sharp contrast to the calming words of his English language spokesperson Dr. Ashrawi regarding, "courage, conviction, integrity and a genuine commitment to peace with justice."
On September 12th, Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Maadi on his weekly PA TV show, said the following: "We are waging this cruel war with the brothers of the monkeys and pigs, the Jews and the sons of Zion. The Jews will fight you, and you will subjugate them. Until the Jew will stand behind the tree and rock. And the tree and rock will say: oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him."

To support the mandatory killing of Jews, both religious leaders cited the same Hadith - a verse of Islamic tradition attributed to Mohammed - expressing Allah’s will that Muslims kill Jews, before the “Hour” of Resurrection. The words of the Hadith:
"The Hour [Resurrection] will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews, and kill them. And the Jews will hide behind the rock and tree, and the rock and tree will say: oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, this is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!"
Numerous times in recent years, Arab religious leaders and academics in the areas controlled by Yassir Arafat have taught publicly that this particular Islamic teaching calling for the murder of Jews applies today. Below are a few examples [courtesy of Palestinian Media Watch] of previous PA TV broadcasts which convey this same message.
This teaching may well be a dominant motivating factor that drives terror against Israeli civilians, because it presents the killing of Jews as a religious obligation inherent to Allah’s world, not related to the conflict over borders.
Hanan Ashrawi in her above-cited video address spoke of "several attempts to exclude the Palestinians from human recognition and consideration and from the moral framework of humanity." Only days before, Dr. Ashrawi's own PA TV station broadcast the above-cited religious lessons which reduced the Jews to "pigs on the face of the earth" and "the brothers of the monkeys and pigs." PA religious leaders teach, based on a story in the Quran, that Jews were cursed by Allah and turned into monkeys and pigs.
This is consistent with the PA teaching that the Jew's have inherent and unchanging character defects. Dehumanizing Israelis and Jews is common in the PA print media.

Finally, Dr. Ashrawi's repeated references to peace in her English address ("genuine commitment to peace," "the pursuit of Palestinian-Israeli peace") and her self portrayal as an opponent of terrorism are not consistent with her own track record of statements in Arabic.
As PMW's Itamar Marcus notes in an in-depth analysis of Ashrawi's one and only Arabic condemantion of suicide terrorism: "Ashrawi did not condemn in Arabic the suicide bombing that killed tens in a Jerusalem pizza shop, or the hundreds of civilians murdered on buses, in recent years. Not even once... The first public statement against suicide terrorism in Arabic was made by Ashrawi only in an open petition she signed with other Palestinians in the Al-Quds newspaper on June 19, 2002... However, even a simple reading of the petition shows that she explicitly does not reject terror as a tool when it is politically effective, but only when it causes political damage. The petition does not include a single word of condemnation of suicide terrorism, and does not rule out terrorism at times when it is an effective tool. It deals entirely with the negative political results of suicide terrorism now for her cause."
Marcus concludes: "Ashrawi is not a moderate by any Western standard. She is a slick, terrorist supporter who understands the importance of public relations, proper timing and spin for terrorism."

That, in a nutshell is why there is no such thing as a Moderate Muslim. It is also why there will never be peace in the Middle East. Their Prophet demanded Genocide, and Genocide is what the Muslims will do, or die trying. ANY statement that claims peace is possible from a Muslim is a bold faced LIE, and nothing less.
Lets show them a little cultural sensitivity, and respect their diverse ways. It is time we respect their society and rules and reciprocate in a language they understand, and by their rules. We need to tell them in Arabic that we will make a peace deal with them, and order our troops in English to nuke them into oblivion.
Then there will be Peace.
