Weld debated him about 6 times in Massachusetts. Said kerry was a "good debter" but strayed from subject and used convoluted sentences.
Weld also said that Kerry outright lies about statistics, figures, etc. We've already seen that in his speeches through the campaign. Like Edwards, he's a trial lawyer at heart. He practices the drama of the courtroom, throwing out fantasy allegations against the President and the Republicans, thus planting the seed in the public's mind, which in Kerry's mind represents the jury.
