Tony Coelho admitted on Hardball tonight that the DNC had the memos before CBS but that they didn't use them because they realized that the documents were probably fake.
'He did not come to us, we went to him and asked for the documents.'
Who told CBS/DNC that Burkett had the documents?
I TiVo'ed and watched it again, Surreal.

Paging John Dingell, please pick up the white courtesy phone.

"Also Wednesday, Rep. John Dingell, D-Michigan, called for a Justice Department investigation into the possible connection
between ads run by the swift boat group and the president's re-election campaign."
Possibly.
But more importantly, the whole CBS fiasco has effectively given the Kerry campaign bus eight flat tires while the Bush motorcade moves further and further away from them in the polls.
Thank you, Dan Rather! You rock, you shakey liberal freak!
There's no surprise here. Anyone who fails to see the DNC's fingerprints all OVER this is an idiot.
McAuliffe's fingerprints.....or those of his operatives in the DNC......are all over this nasty, CBS News-destroying episode. It's no shock to this Forum that CBS and other MSM outlets are little more than shills for the DNC. Before this is over, this little hidden fact will be revealed to the country once and for all, I predict.
"But, CBS got sloppy and posted the .pdf files. If they had simply run with the story, they would have never been found out."
CBS had to post them because the alleged memos had become of over-riding public interest since they were the very basis for the news report. There were no reasonable grounds on which copies could have been withheld. Other news mediums would have demanded copies. Finally, there was more than a little hubris by CBS. The result was that the forged memos were posted by CBS.
And why did Harkin come out immediately spewing words from the memo? And why were there so many lefty hit pieces using the same info? Maybe we'll get to find out. Yipeeeee!
Local Milwaukee 10:00 PM newscast mentioned the USA Today story and the fact that Kerry Campaign contacted Burkett(sp).
This has legs.
"Who told CBS/DNC that Burkett had the documents?"
The latest story from Cleland is that he gave Burkett's number to the Kerry campaign. Who knows as yet, since they are all scrambling like cockroaches in a harsh light.
He is.
Right next to Sandy Berger.
/bitter sarcasm
Many legs it seems...
As the elevator guy said to me last night
GOING DOWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
I agree I think the posting was a mistake, the docs were never supposed to be circulated.
As a clue -- Today you had CBS TV more or less being reported on by the CBS web site.
Technology ate Dan's lunch ;^}
Bookmarked. BTTT!
If they realized they were fake, why didn't they warn Dan Rather? I understand his producer contacted Lockhart before they went with the story.
I also recall some Dims, from Susan Ostrich, to Kerry, Edwards, and Big Mouth Teresa using words such as "draft-dodger," "deserter," and "AWOL."
Post #8 in that thread looks prescient, to me. I expect that's what'll cause the unravelling, that will cause the truth to finally come out.

This story won't help their senate and house races either.
IF the DNC had the documents and knew they were fakes, then how come Terry McAuliffe came out right after the 60 Minutes show and said they were genuine?
I agree with you that CBS would eventually have to release the documents, if other other news organizations pressured them into doing so. But, I don't think that would have happened. The Bush/Guard/AWOL story is old news. It would not have drawn much attention if the bloggers hadn't pushed the story.
