Bush Attends Midtown Fundraiser Raises $3 Million At GOP Event
Sep 20, 2004 8:56 pm US/Eastern NEW YORK (CBS) The crowd shouted him down repeatedly, once with a roar so loud he confessed it shook him up. But President Bush liked these shouters: loud voices of support in a state where he was soundly defeated four years ago.
"I love New York!" Bush said as Hispanic donors chanted "Viva Bush" at a $3 million fund-raiser for the Republican National Committee.
Bush returned Monday to the city where he held his nominating convention three weeks ago, and he said he saw brightening political prospects here and in neighboring New Jersey and Connecticut -- equally Democratic-leaning in presidential contests.
Top Republicans here said they were buoyed by new polls showing the race between Bush and Democrat John Kerry tightening in the Empire State. Two polls released last week showed Bush closing the gap but still trailing by 6 to 8 percentage points in a three-way race with independent Ralph Nader.

WOW! I'm sure I'll see that in my local rag on the front page tomorrow, complete with pictures! /s (The San Jose Mercury News)
Sounds like it was awesome!
All of this support after being told how unwelcome the Pubbies were in New York. I love it.
OBTW, it's nice to see another ex-submariner around here.
If our numbers go up in New York its lights out for the dimocrats!
I don't know, but if he was 'shook up' I'm not entirely certain it was a cheerful supporter that caused it.
So Kerry was coincidentally nearby huh? Still trailing the President like a whipped puppy more like.
What I'd like to know is why kerry is campaigning in NY! Now I am one sceptical about the polls concerning N.Y., but have to confess if Kerry is in the area there may be some validity to them.
N.Y. will probably still turn to Kerry, but interesting none the less.
If I were Kerry I wouldn't be spending time in a state he is likely to Kerry. Everytime he shows his face, his numbers drop. he would be better off campaigning in Texas where he has nothing to lose.

Our President has a good read on our hearts, and he knows our views are NOT REFLECTED by the likes of dan rather, tom brokaw and peter jennings. And he moves to the beat of a very highly placed Drummer....Someone who always walks where He is needed!
It would take a Reaganesque landslide to carry New York. But here's hoping it happens.
( I will never forget the well placed copy of Bernie Goldberg's book-BIAS-in President Bush's hands as he left the WH for a flight somewhere.)
Why were both President Bush and Senator Kerry in New York state today? Why was Kerry making a speech at NYU today where as Rush says, "he hit a single." Could it be that his polls are down?
Kerry is making negative progress in his base states. A Marist poll released September 15 and quoted by electoral-vote.com puts Kerry under 50% with just an 8% lead (48% to 40%) in New York! Notice the date when the Kerry and Bush trend lines intersect!

Hey I hope you're right and this does indicate a trend that continues. But its just that I tend to be pessimistic about states like New York.
Increasing diversity + liberal whites = Good Demographics for the Democrats.
We don't have to win New York to hurt Kerry. The fact that he will have to spend money and time there to defend his base will take resources away from battleground states.
God Bless President Bush. His strength and conviction inspire everyone.
Still waiting for john kerry to show his face in Indianapols--heck, if President Bush can DO New York...hehe....
