So does this mean Burkett confessed to making the forgeries or just handing them over???

In a statement, CBS said former Texas Guard official Bill Burkett "has acknowledged that he provided the now-disputed documents" and "admits that he deliberately misled the CBS News producer working on the report, giving her a false account of the documents' origins to protect a promise of confidentiality to the actual source."

The legendary Liberal backhanded slap..."Sure, they're fake, but only because we were nobly protecting our souce from the Evil Republicans!"

I think, IMHO, the coming Bush Doc-u-dump demanded by the Liberal Judge is going to make this entire AWOL-from-the-Guard thing a moot point, so once it was ordered, Danny Boy had to find the least painful way out of the problem.

Burkett got the forgeries from someone else. Who would be motivated to do that? Hmmmm?

According to the statement,

1. Burkett says he got the documents from someone else and lied to CBS about the identity of that person to fulfill a promise of confidentiality.

2. CBS has not been able to VERIFY the identity of that person or his relationship to the documents (emphasis added).

"Verify" is an interesting word. Generally, it means to establish or vouch for the truth of something. If CBS is attempting to establish the truth of the identity of Burkett's source, it must know that identity. One cannot verify the truth of something one does not know.

So, CBS, out with it. What is Burkett's latest story about the source of the documents? And you better not tell us that you agreed with Burkett to keep that little morsel of information confidential.

This is without a doubt the most non-confessional "confession" I have ever seen. It's no wonder CBS and Kerry love each other so much - no one does better than these two at going on and on and on with a statement that says absolutely nothing. This is nothing more than an attempt to have it both ways - restore their "credibility" by saying they have finally determined that the documents are forgeries, while at the same time pushing the line that the content of them is still true.

Now watch the MSM try to say "Case closed!" and report that it is time to "move on." Watch them gush endlessly above Rather's "bravery" in finally "fessing up." And watch them lay low for a few weeeks until people's memories start to fade a bit, and then go right back to claiming that "Bush shirked his TANG duties and there are documents to prove it."
