On August 11, Bob Tuke, the Tennessee state chair of Veterans for Kerry, told a Nashville radio station that, soon, "We may also know why Bush failed to show up for his medical exam that caused him to lose his flight status." A few weeks later, on September 1, liberal blogger Joshua Micah Marshall reported that Dan Rather was working on a 60 Minutes story about Bush and the Guard. On September 2, the day Bush accepted his party's nomination in New York, the online magazine Salon published an exhaustive investigation into the "unanswered questions" surrounding the president's service. On September 6, Terry McAuliffe issued a press release detailing "what we don't know" about Bush's Guard years. Another DNC release on the same topic followed on September 7. Three more followed on September 8, the day 60 Minutes aired its story featuring the now-discredited Guard memos. One of the DNC releases that day relied heavily on the 60 Minutes report.
On September 8, a new batch of National Guard documents were released, and the Boston Globe and the Associated Press both featured stories on the new finds. The Globe story concluded that "Bush fell well short of meeting his military obligation." Then, on September 9, the DNC issued two more press releases that again quoted extensively from the 60 Minutes report, including from the discredited memos.
The DNC continued to issue press releases on Bush and the Guard, but, after September 9, the releases no longer mentioned the memos. The absence was noticeable. "I think it's a sign that there is plenty to talk about irrespective of the CBS documents," Wolfson told me. "Many other news organizations have done reporting on this. There's a set of facts that are incontrovertible and are not in dispute."

Am I suggesting that the Kerry Campaign or the DNC actually forged the memos? No. I can't believe that they would be that stupid. Even if they had done a much better job of putting these forgeries together there still would have been someone, somewhere who would have been capable of spotting these things as fake. No, I don't think that they were actually responsible for the documents, but they were almost certainly responsible for their dissemination.
Think about the way that you were feeling on and around Sept 8th. The Dems were in full attack mode less than five days after Bush's triumphant acceptance speech in New York. It seemed as though bad news was quickly piling up for Bush, and that the Dems just might be able to reverse the convention bounce. The 60 Minutes segment (conveniently) seemed to be the icing on the cake.
It just seems that the 60 Minutes II segment occurred with memos that had just the right corroborative evidence, at just the right time to back up a well planned assault on the part of the Kerry Campaign and the DNC.
Again, I firmly believe that this is the real story. If the Dems were really behind the distribution of these memos as so many of us suspect, it could mean more than the end of the Kerry campaign. Let's just all pray that we can find Terry McAuliffe's fingerprints on a Kinko's fax machine in Texas.
THAT would be awesome
if a proven real link was found that The DNC or Kerry camp did something to provide these memos then that is the final nail in the coffin for Kerry
"courage"
I'm kind of on the fence about a Congressional Investigation right now for a number of reasons. First, I agree with Ramesh and others who argue that the focus needs to remain on the media right now. If Congress gets involved the MSM will start talking about the "mean-spirited" Republicans and the focus will shift away from the actual scandal. The other reasons though are more practical. Congressional Investigations seldom accomplish anything and even if they did, the 2004 election will be long over before they bang the first gavel.
Hmmmm... Do you suppose there is a connection between all these events? :-p
The co-ordinated attack occured after AP primed the story with the fact they HAD to sue to get extra documents. Next day, CBS, NYT, Boston Globe, Washington Post, DNC, Tom Harkin etc..jumped the shark
When did the AP make that announcement?
Coincidence......I think not.
re: Criminal investigation over document forgery
Why not just bring Kerry up on treason?
I think the facts are much more well known, since his own words are enough to convict him.
I've had enough Congressional "investigations"/CYA missions. They are a waste of money, and tell us nothing we didn't know before hand.
Rush mentioned it just few minutes ago. I read it here on FR. Try a search of 'Burkett'
He is an attn who works hard for homosexual rights such as adoption and he intends to bring up homosexuality in the presentations---he is an adjunct professorat Vanderbilt University School of Law and very active in the DNC.
This man wants the kids, of the schools signed up to participate, to study , before the virtual presentation, where questions can be asked by students for him to answer, the NYT Campaign 2004 web page, to study abortion, affirmative action, death penalty, gay rights (by viewing and discussing shows such as 'queer eye for the straight guy' and 'will and grace' BECAUSE " DESPITE the variety of issues mentioned, please note there is only one POST LECTURE ACTIVITY AND THAT ONE ACTIVITY FOCUSSES on HOMOSEXUALITY
I looked at the web page for the schedule of the homosexual promotion theme, where NO VIDEO TAPING OR NOTES ARE ALLOWED, and found schools in MY AREA that are going to participate.
I plan to be there.
Seeing this man's NAME above, and relating to what I already knew....I believe this is a DNC-HOMOSEXUAL LOBBY move to blindside American children.

Whenever pro-homosexual activists state "no video or audio taping is allowed," that is precisely the time you want to be recording. Remember Fistgate? Theses people need to be exposed!
( Heads up, Parents! 6-12 Graders getting "gay is great" lecture from DNC head Bob Tuke, Oct 12 )
