Westin Cautions Care with CBS Story

ABC News' president has cautioned reporters that their mission in reporting on the CBS document story is not to stick it to a competitor.

ABC is hot on the story, breaking ground by unearthing a document examiner who warned a CBS producer of the Bush records’ questionable status, but nobody's gloating.

In a memo sent last week, ABC News President David Westin issued a directive for covering the allegedly forged memos cited on 60 Minutes.

“We need to stick as close to the facts and what we know about them as possible,” he wrote, because, noting, ABC could be in the hot seat next time. How best to sum up CBS’s dilemma? Westin chose to paraphrase Churchill: “When boys are throwing rocks at a frog, it may seem like good fun to the boys, but to the frog, it's serious business." While ABC may not be able to turn a frog into a prince, it is willing to vindicate a competitor. “If CBS News is wrong, we owe it to everyone to make the point; if they’re right, we owe it to everyone to make that point as well.”

When it comes to their own, they say 'stick to the facts'. When it comes to President Bush and conservatives, it is okay to make it up. What a bunch of two-faced hypocrites!

That says it all..
stick to the facts...

but not because you want to be factual and honest.
NOOOOOOO....stick to the facts because when we pull our 'false fact' shenanigan (as we have in the past) it could be our arses in the ringer.

Whatta buncha hypocritical bovine shiite.

Honor among thieves. Nothing more, nothing less. In fact, I'm surprised that this didn't come about sooner. If ABC is starting to back off a bit, I'd be willing to bet that they must really have uncovered something juicy about this whole story.

ABC is loving this but they know it could happen to them although I am sure all of the MSM will be extra careful with anonymous sources and "discovered" documents for the foreseeable future.

Westin's just worried that whoever stuck it CBS could just as eaily stick it to them. So much for honor among thieves.

Fact is, there are a LOT of VERY serious issues that should be pushed HARD about the documets.
1. The widow and son were IGNORED
2. Document experts were IGNORED
3. Hodges was MISLED
4. The old secretary was NOT INTERVIEWED until afterward
5. The opinions of the experts were MISREPRESENTED
6. The swift boat veterans were MALIGNED
7. George Bush's roomate DURING HIS GUARD YEARS, who AGREED TO SPEAK TO THEM WAS TURNED DOWN BECAUSE HE WAS TOO "PRO BUSH"...

And the list goes on. Fact is, this was a HIT PIECE ON BUSH. And just because dnCBS owns up to fake documents does NOT CLEAR THEIR PROPAGANDA / DNC REPORTING!!

If the documents were the ONLY ISSUE in this, without all of the other plainly propaganda driven results, it wouldn't be such an issue.

THE DOCUMENTS ARE JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG! THE ICEBERG IS THE MANIPULATION AND DECEPTION OF THE PUBLIC!!

Just because we arent as outwardly bias against Bush, doesn't mean the PJ brigade won't nail us!!

This is otherwise known as sanitizing the toilet. Sadly, NBC will say the same thing but mean it.

60 Minutes II producers, Dan Rather, and CBS aren't liars, they are just "veraciously challenged".

The murderous monsters that killed school children in Beslan, Russia aren't ISLAMIC JIHADIE TERRORISTS ,they are "militants" or "separatists".

This story is just another example of political correctness. If Dan Rather and 60 minutes were proven to have a conservative agenda instead of a liberal one, then I am sure that the same caution and sensitivity would not be recommended. ABC would barbecue them.

Political Correctness, Multiculturalism, Moral Relativism and the Parsing of the Truth is going to bring about the end or us.

What a bunch of two-faced hypocrites!

You know Petah Jennings is heart-broken. Dan Blather seems to be the villain of choice on FR as far as network anchors . . . but my personal animus is reserved for the Canadian, Palestinian-loving, bash-America-at-every-opportunity Monsieur Jennings -- ABC's liberal face of record.

At least Dan Blather's openly liberal . . . Petah hides in the liberal scrub-grass then arrogantly delivers his lectures and pronouncements in a nauseous nasal tone that turns my stomach. For example . . . his and Toby Keith's skirmish.

Petah is a far greater threat to our conservative way of life than an openly liberal Dan Blather.
