CBS was misled, or Rather chose to use material he knew to be fradulent in order to damage the President? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
As I said in another thread, I originally bought the line that Rather was duped and did not use forged docs intentionally. Now, with the mountain of evidence we have seen in the last 10 days, much of it brought to Rather's and CBS's attention PRIOR to their airing the docs, leads me to believe that Rather knew the docs were forged and yet still used them. If Rather had this quantity and quality of evidence against Bush, he conclude the worst. In fact, he did!
"He said he believed Ms. Mapes and her team had appropriately answered all questions about the documents' authenticity and, he noted, no one seemed to be casting doubt upon the essential thrust of the report."
That's just a flat-out lie. General Staudt totally contradicted the story. Every aspect of it. That's a direct witness, when all CBS pointed to was a secretary who referenced hearsay.
I vote for his using them to achieve his purposes.
