An Interview with Sue Niederer Her Son Was Told by the Recruiter He Wouldn't See Combat; Now He's Dead
By ELIZABETH WEILL-GREENBERG
Seth, 24, was in debt after he graduated from Rutgers University in 2002. He joined the army for money and skills that, he was told, would help land him a job with the CIA or FBI -- his dream jobs. "Not for patriotism," said his mother, Sue Niederer, who is now an anti-war activist. She advised her son to get the recruiter's promises in writing. When Seth asked, the recruiter told him, "Your mother wears your pants for you?"
Seth, who had no training with explosives, was assigned to find enemy remote-controlled bombs. He would then call in experts to deactivate them.
He was killed by a bomb in February 2004, after five months in Iraq. Below is a conversation with Seth's mother, Sue Niederer:...
I meant a civilian job. I honor his service as well as all others. My nephew turned down a free college education to join. He is now in his 2nd year of 6. Stationed in Japan working on weapon guidence systems.
Yes. Honor her lost son. Honor them all. Our troops represent the best this country can produce.
As for the mother, she is obviously drowning brain first in her grief. Pity her for becoming a willing tool of those who would play 21st Century Chamberlains.
Accuse me of ripping off "Casablanca" if you must, but the problems of two people just don't amount to a hill of beans. Seth died in a war of wills that is larger than any one of us, even our mothers. We can either swallow hard and drive on, or throw our hands up and start facing Mecca now.
What will it be, America?
2. He did "get a job", he joined the service. Let's be careful not to label the fallen soldier by his mother's rantings. She's in understandable pain but clearly also politically motivated in her speech. I can't help but think the son would be embarrased and angry that his mother thought him as stupid and child-like as she makes him out to be.
Oh, she's not only unstable, she's the winner of the
ULTIMATE VICTIM award.
I have no doubt that her kid joined the military to get the hell away from HER!!
She's too self-centered to know her a**hole from a sinkhole...
I'm almost 61 and believe me, I've never heard
it from anyone in WWII, Korean War or Viet Nam
War.
One has to wonder. Was she an anti-war activist BEFORE her son joined? Could it be she is exploiting her sons death for partisan political aims? Of course, the ONLY source for all these claims is the deranged woman. If you SAW the pictures rather then just READ the reports, this woman was competely out of control, NOT with grief, she was completely metally unhindged. If she had acted that way ANY where else she would of been thrown in a padded cell. The only reason she is getting the kids gloves treatment by the "news" media is because they are dressing it up as a "Free Speech" issue. IF say a Vietnam Vet went to a KERRY rally and acted like this, the Vet would NOT be given all this sympathetic treatment. Sorry, wrapping herself in her son's death to advance partisan political views is SICK not honorable.
Is there a mentally healthy individual in the DemocRAT Communist Party??
It's interesting that some parents and some enlistees seem so naive. Don't we all know that signing up for any branch of the military may put them in harms way?
Do some parents really think that enlisting in the military means that their son or daughter will receive free goodies from their government?,-- and then are shocked that these precious children are subject to going into a war situation?
Enlisting in the military is a very serious decision--one that should not be taken lightly, even if it is conceived that the world is trouble free at their time of enlistment.
This all seems to me to be such a basic unterstanding, but with some reactions , like with Sue Niederer, you have to wonder.
Guess I just said the same thing PhiKapMom!
Anybody who joins the military after 9/11 and believes he will not see combat has his head up his @ss
Reminds me of Nick Berg's father, Michael Berg, a member of Moveon.commie...
And when the war comes to these shores, as it likely will?
Daft cow placemarker.
I don't understand why this woman would demean her son's sacrifice in this manner. He did his duty, he gave his life. He is a hero. And she turns it to dirt. I don't get it.
NO ONE deserves to be attacked like we did. NO ONE.
"Mom" needs some mental health help. Parading her dead son around for her own partisan political goals is just beyond the pale.
>I get so tired of this "I didn't join the army to be a >soldier" talk.
Before I realized the difference between 'liberal' and conservative', I remember reading a Jessica Lynch headline of "She only wanted to go to college". So you get a freaking JOB!! And one that doesn't put you in combat!! I don't get it. In what country do you join the military and not assume you might have to actually BE in the military?
I guess nobody told the poor kid two very basic things:
1) Recruiters lie.
2) The business of the army is to kill people and break things - this might put you in physical danger.
