Villanova is not Jesuit. It is Augustinian. St. Joe's is Philly's Jesuit University and as the Jesuits go, is not too bad.

Drinan, and his buddies are the ones who told the Kennedys and other northeastern lib Catholics that they could lie to folks about their pro-abortion positions and use the 'I'm personlly opposed to abortion ... line" when running for office. They also told them that they could be pro-abortion and still consider themselves 'good Catholics', because if they didn't really 'believe' it was a sin, then it wasn't.

I pity the kids who have had their Faith completey ruined by Drinan and the Jebbies at Boston College, Providence College, and other allegedly Catholic colleges with who they are associated.

Under the Magisterium of St. Pius X, this twit would have been defrocked in the blink of a eye. The legacy our Polish Pope leaves behind will most certainly separate him from all his predecessors.

Our Lady of La Salette, pray for us. Saint Pius X, pray for us.

Thanks for the Post # 60 notice. The Black Pope appears to be walking in lockstep with our Polish Pope.

Yes I would be inclined to agree - to a point. Although, I know that JPII does not approve of the Jesuits mode of operation over the last 35 or so years. My understanding is that he is ignoring them, and allowing them to implode on themselves. The numbers alone reveal this to be so: from a membership of some 36,000 in the mid-60s, they are down to less then 12,000 now, by the last info I received.

Disband them? Yes, I would. But.......um.......remember Jphn Paul I? He wanted very much to disband them. The orders to do it were on his desk when he died.....of.......(you fill in the blank).

Does the word "poison" have any meaning in this context?

Form letter response by William Werpehowski, Director of Villanova's Center for Peace and Justice:

Dear Mr. xxxxxxx,

Thank you for your letter.

During this presidential election season, The Center for Peace and Justice
Education is
sponsoring a four part series entitled “Election 2004: Questions, Issues,
Choices.” Fr.
Robert Drinan, S.J. will be a speaker during our September 21 session entitled
“Pursuing
Economic Injustice at Home and Abroad: A Worthy Goal for our Nation.” In
addition to
discussions of peace and security, economic justice, and environmental matters,
the series
includes a meeting on October 26 specifically devoted to election issues bearing
on
respect for human life. During that meeting, and using Catholic social thought
as a point
of departure, the major presidential candidates’ contrasting stances on
abortion,
euthanasia, and capital punishment will be critically discussed.

The purpose of our session on September 21 is to offer information about and
raise
questions of our major presidential candidates on issues specifically related to
economic
justice. While aware of the history of controversy surrounding Fr. Drinan, we
believe his
familiarity and expertise with issues of economic justice, as they reflect
Catholic social
teaching, will contribute to a fruitful dialogue. As a Center for Peace and
Justice
Education at Villanova University, we thoroughly affirm the principle of human
dignity
that is central to the Catholic moral tradition. We welcome those interested in
joining
this conversation.

All good wishes,

William Werpehowski
Director, CPJE

Pro-abortion Jesuit to speak at Villanova University

Matt C. Abbott

If I had a dollar for every time a pro-abortion, left-wing politician or entertainer has been invited to speak at a supposedly Catholic institution of "higher learning," I might be richer than Mel Gibson!

Well, that's stretching things a bit; but assenting, informed Catholics know exactly what I mean.

Yet another case in point:

Father Robert Drinan, a Jesuit priest and former Democratic congressman, will be speaking at Villanova University on September 21, 2004. Drinan, according to Catholic historian James Hitchcock, "bears heavy responsibility for making the Democratic Party the party of abortion."

On a positive note, I received the following news release from Catholic Citizens of Illinois (www.catholiccitizens.org):

"Responding to Pope John Paul II's call for Catholic men and women to become engaged in the public defense of the Faith, Catholic Citizens of Illinois, Inc. has announced a radio ad campaign to be aired during October 2004, highlighting Catholic teaching as it relates to faithful citizenship and voting.

"Thirty-second radio spots have been created and will run in Illinois and in several Midwestern states where there are large Catholic populations.

"'This is the largest campaign we have ever mounted,' said CCI president Mary Anne Hackett. In previous election years, the group took out ads in Illinois newspapers which included quotes from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Vatican, and the Catholic Catechism. 'Our ads appeared in over two million individual newspapers in prior years,' said Mrs. Hackett. 'By our estimation, the radio ads we are placing will be repeatedly broadcast in markets that will allow us to reach as many as 25 million listeners'..

"The text of the radio spots will vary on different stations, but the message is that for years, pro-abortion and gay 'rights' Catholic politicians have been asking for the votes of Catholic men and women. This year, for the first time, the bishops have firmly stated that pro-abortion politicians, and the voters who put them in office, participate directly in the evil of abortion. The radio ads conclude by encouraging Catholic voters not to leave their Catholic faith behind when they go into the voting booth, because their vote is a matter of life or death.."

Amen!
