Swiftly exceeding demand

"I don't usually order Regnery titles," said Marcia Rider, co-owner of Capitola Books in Santa Cruz County. "If people want to come in and special- order them, fine."
But while Rider was on vacation, an optimistic colleague ordered 35 copies of "Unfit."
"We have 26 on hand," Rider said. They've sold just one copy since Sept. 1, and will return to the publisher those that don't sell.
"We've got a bunch of them up on a very top shelf. Yesterday someone came in and put them face out," said Rider. "People accuse us of not representing their views. ... People have been accusatory that we haven't wanted to carry the book, which is true. The community is pretty anti-Bush down here. Here in Santa Cruz, we're pretty much to the left of the political spectrum.
"Did you know the marketing director of Regnery is [conservative columnist] Robert Novak's son?" Yes, we did.

Wow. Leftist candor. Although Capitola is not Santa Cruz. In Santa Cruz possession of Unfit for Command is probably a felony.
Withut a doubt.
"Yesterday someone came in and put them face out"
Wouldn't they sell better if people saw the covers?
And finding Richard Poe's book? Don't think so.
I was at the airport yesterday, and the bookstore had two copies propped up in the most visible part of their front display.
Hmmmm.....wonder if they take online orders?
The local Barnes & Noble (San Francisco Bay Area) had them on the table of new released that is prominately displayed when you first walk in. While they weren't facing the door, they were a little to the left (ironic, eh?) of the front of the table, and weren't hidden.
"Yesterday someone came in and put them face out"
Hmmm, they put them on the top shelf and hide the face-and then they wonder why they don't sell....
I suspect that 90 percent of the unavailability was due to the publisher's inability to supply demand. Also, it's a brand not known for best sellers.
Books dont really sll all that well up on the top shelf with the cover turned down.
Bragging that they will send back the unwanted books it seems pretty evident they only ordered them so they could have the pleasure of returning them and keeping them off the shelf of a more Conservative book store.
Lol.
The owners of the bookstore know their customers. They want to stay in business, so they do what they have to do.
I don't blame them.
Harhar. Isn't it amusing to see the left squirm They do it so well. They just AREN'T used to losing.
Since the internet, Fox News and talk radio the Lefties have had to squirm, scream, rant and otherwise have various temper tantrums.
It's all very amusing and gratifying. I've been waiting for "what goes around..." for quite a while. 'Bout time I get so see some sauce for the gander.
The co-owner makes it quite clear that they have no intent to serve the market for conservative books. Why would anyone expect them to experience a demand for a conservative book even if they happen to have it in stock? If they can stay in business while ignoring a segment of the market fine, but it does open them up to competitors who can exploit their myopia.
The Borders near my house never gave it any prominent spot, and they are constantly "out of stock". The political section doesn't have an empty space to show that they recently ran out of it in the "new" books on politics.
But Kitty Kelly's book is front and center when you walk in the door, and Clinton's book hasn't been retired from the display right in front of the door, even though it has been out for months, and doesn't sell that well.
Isn't it like SO coincidental that these conservative dudes keep showing up in conservative organizations? It's like really too wierd.
My thoughts exactly!
The City of Santa Cruz is a nuclear free zone. As far as I know the County hasn't gotten around to that particular nonsense yet.
I dont mind lefty's when they ADMIT their bias. If this is how she wants to run her store then fine- it is when they LIE about it and claim to be unbiased is when I have a real problem.
Of course O'Neill is the man to write it...
The reporter doesn't get it. O'Neill was chiding the reporters for not doing their job on telling the story about the qualifications of a Presidential candidate.
